Five Ways to Save Joss Whedon

As much as we all fervently and loyally love Joss Whedon, it's time to face facts: His mojo is off. It's not gone -- I'd never suggest such a thing. One look at Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog and the better episodes of Dollhouse prove that the magic is still there. However, it has lost its focus, writhing in the ether, struggling to gain the fame of his earlier television work -- fame that while never massive, was solid, loyal, and passionate.

With Dollhouse canceled, the question on everyone's mind is how can he get back to the success of Buffy? How can he shrug off the pain of two battles for ratings and second seasons, and present a show that ushers in a fandom rivaling what came before with Buffy, Giles, Willow, and Xander?

Girls on Film: The Hollywood Dollhouse

Being an actress can be a real pain in the ass. By definition, the gig is simple. You pretend your someone else; you perform. In reality, however, there's a whole added can of worms -- especially when Hollywood is involved. There's this ridiculous and particular mold an actress has to fit into, and pitfalls she must deal with -- especially in terms of superstardom.

There is literally no way to completely avoid the possible pitfalls of celebrity -- especially if you choose to be involved with any film project. We live in a world where potential blockbusters can tank and the $11k, uber-small Paranormal Activity can become a phenomenon. There's always a chance -- the possibility of being thrust into the ever-scrutinizing public eye, finding any semblance of privacy fly out the window as the paparazzi camp out at your front door and fandom rains down.

Welcome to the Dollhouse.

More Dushku Details for 'Valediction'

Filed under: Casting », Fandom »

MTV's Hollywood Crush got the details behind Eliza Dushku's Tweets about filming a new project in Boston directly from the star herself. The Dollhouse lead is currently in Beantown for Valediction, a thriller about a man who finds himself in the middle of a hot freaking mess. He and his wife have a young daughter who is "seemingly in a coma, but [they learn] she's actually alive and fully living out in her brain, but is just in this locked-in state... So he's trying to have his daughter wake up from this traumatic experience," according to Dushku. Also? The car accident is his fault.

Ben Barnes, Prince Caspian himself, plays Josh, the utterly confused lead, and Sarah Roemer is his wife. Dushku is the wild card, Renee, with whom he once had an affair and is just one of the catalysts for Josh's inner turmoil.

"[Josh] sort of meets up with Renee and wonders what would have happened if he went that route. It really is about his struggle both with these women in his life and then with his daughter who's been injured... It turns into a really psychological chaos," Dushku told MTV.

Dushku's TV show Dollhouse was (thankfully!) renewed by Fox, and the multi-talented star is also producing a biopic about Robert Mapplethorpe, The Perfect Moment.

Discuss: Is 'Buffy' Better Off Without Joss Whedon?

We've all had a few days to let the news sink in that Buffy the Vampire Slayer is getting a feature film reboot, and is if that wasn't enough; that the creator, Joss Whedon, would not be a part of it. As to be expected, fans were ticked, and just for the record, I am one of those die-hard Buffy fans with DVD collections and Season 8 comics lining my wall. But, maybe it's because lately everything is up for grabs when it comes to remakes and reboots, because when I heard the news, I was surprisingly calm about the whole thing. Now last week I asked fans if there was a chance they were being a little too hard on a certain time-traveling robot, but then I realized I should probably try and follow my own advice when it comes to something I love. So I ask myself: Is a 'Whedonless' Buffy necessarily a bad thing? Well, I have to tell you, there is a part of me that thinks that the Buffy reboot isn't doomed to fail, and here's why:
