Complete DVD Specs for the Second 'Futurama' Movie. (Yay!)
Filed under: Animation », Comedy », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Home Entertainment », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »
It's probably because Bender's Big Score was the first reunion with the Futurama crew that it was all so much fun -- but we've been promised three more DVD movies from the Planet Express gang, and I'm starting to get impatient! Fortunately, DVDActive.com has a press release regarding movie #2 (The Beast with a Billion Backs), and here's what it has to say! (I'm so proud of myself for not using the "Good news everyone!" gag, but there I just went and blew it.)According to DVDA, the disc (which doesn't touch down until June 24 darnit) will offer a multi-participant commentary track, a 30-minute "Futurama Lost Adventure," a pair of featurettes, deleted scenes, bloopers, storyboards, animatics, and all sorts of extra-geeky stuff. (And also a peek at the third Futurama flick!) Here's what the official plot synopsis sounds like: "In Futurama's latest and most tentacle-packed epic, space itself rips open, revealing a gateway to another universe. But what lies beyond? Horror? Love? Or maybe both, if it happens to contain a repulsive, planet-sized monster with romantic intentions! Nothing less than the fate of human and robot-kind is at stake as the Futurama crew takes on The Beast With A Billion Backs."
And the DVD cover is really cool. I've snipped just a section of it for Cinematical purposes, but check out the real deal right here.
Which 'Knocked Up' DVD Will You Be Getting?
Filed under: Comedy », Romance », Universal », Home Entertainment »
The multi-hatted movie-maker Judd Apatow has been on a really solid roll of late. After helping to create two brilliant TV shows (Freaks and Geeks, Undeclared) that nobody watched until after they were canceled, Mr. Apatow and his crew have been churning out R-rated comedies that are as hilarious as they are profitable. (If you're not a fan of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, I just don't think we can be friends.) And with Superbad arriving this weekend, it seems a perfect time to announce the DVD specs for Apatow's other big-time summer hit. So if you dug Knocked Up even half as much as I did, you'll want to dig through this info before searching out the DVD:Basic extras -- available on both the R-rated and Unrated Editions:
Deleted and Extended Scenes
Gag Reel
"Directing the Director" -- Capote director Bennett Miller stops by to help Apatow get the job done.
Line-O-Rama -- Tons of alternate takes.
Audio commentary with Judd Apatow, Seth Rogen and Bill Hader
Roller Coaster Featurette
Unrated Goodies -- Available only on the Unrated release:
MORE Deleted and Extended Scenes -- Probably pretty raunchy ones, too
Topless Scene: "Web Design" -- Let's hear it for unnecessary nakedness!
Available only on the 2-disc Unrated version:
Judd Apatow's Video Diaries
Finding Ben Stone -- A mock casting session.
Stripper Confidential -- Rogen and Paul Rudd wade through some Sin City salaciousness.
Even MORE Deleted and Extended Scenes / Gag Reel Footage!
Topless Scene: "Restaurant" -- More skin!
Katherine Hiegl's Audition Tape -- and more!
Needless to say I'll be purchasing the third option on September 25. I really loved this flick.
DVD Specs for 'Shrek the Third'
Filed under: Comedy », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Family Films », Dreamworks », Home Entertainment », Remakes and Sequels »
I'm only writing this news up because I did the same thing for Spider-Man 3 and Pirates 3, but I'd like to take one last opportunity to express my extreme disappointment in Shrek the Third. I'm not implying that the filmmakers were on auto-pilot or didn't care about quality control -- but dang it just wasn't funny. And I really dig Shrek and Shrek 2 a whole lot, just for the record. But since Shrek went a little more "babyish" this time around, your own tots will no doubt want a complete collection of Shrek's DVD trilogy. And on November 13 you'll be able to get your giant green fists on the Shrek the Third DVD from DreamWorks. (Me, I'll be skipping the purchase, sorry.) According to DVDActive.com, the disc will offer an audio commentary -- although the participants have not yet been finalized. And of course there'll be a bunch of other bells and whistles, some for the kids and some for the adults...
- Three additional (deleted?) scenes
- "Tech of Shrek 3" featurette
- "Shrek's Guide to Parenthood"
- "Princess Bootcamp"
- A blooper reel called "Big Green Goofs"
- Music videos "Donkey Dance" and (ugh) "Dancing Babies"
- "Worcesterhsire Yearbook"
- Four random little things for the kids (which they'll never bother with)
- DVD-ROM content
- Widescreen anamorphic transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 audio
- DVD case and receipt
