Good News: La Lohan May Leave Acting for Good

Filed under: Comedy », Romance », RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom »

I'm not one to kick somebody when they're down, and lord knows Miss Lindsay Lohan has been on her way down ... but, well ... in an interview for the April issue of Nylon, the actress dropped hints that she is in need of work and that her recent forays into modeling for Fornarina have inspired her to make a career change. So like any other Lohan-related news item, the gossips were on it like a pack of wolves, and now Page Six has dropped the bomb that the actress could actually have a shot at the world of fashion. According to the wags at Six, Ivan Bart, senior VP of IMG Models, is either desperate for publicity or might actually give her that shot. Bart told Six, "She's a beautiful girl and obviously knows a lot about fashion, providing that she was contractually free, we would take a meeting."

There is no denying that Lohan's celebrity cache has been dropping faster than a pair of Britney's underwear since her stints in court and various rehabs. During 2008, we watched her lose out on potential career-saving roles, and her latest attempt to win back the 'chick flick crowd' has already been voted most likely to end up in the direct-to-DVD pile. Mainly, the press has been far more interested in her personal relationships than her plans to put her career back together -- and who could blame them? There were cryptic messages on Twitter and public spats; it was the stuff of tabloid dreams. So starlets take note: when you're being called the 'next big thing' and everybody loves you, take a moment to ponder the career trajectory of La Lohan and keep in mind that this could be you.

First Look: Audrey Tautou as Coco Chanel

Filed under: Drama », Images »

In the midst of battling Coco Chanel biopics, the first image of Audrey Tautou (Amelie) as the legendary fashion figure has just emerged over at Vanity Fair. I'll admit that after getting my first look at Tautou in that famous 'Coco recline', it is starting to make perfect sense that an entire biopic was shaped around the French actress. If nothing else, you have to admit the the lady is a dead ringer for the style icon.

Coco Avant Chanel was partly based on Edmonde Charles-Roux's book, L'Irrégulière: Ou, Mon Itinéraire Chanel, and was adapted for the screen by Christopher Hampton (Dangerous Liaisons) and Anne Fontaine, who is also directing. The film will not attempt to tell the entire life story of Chanel, probably because it would be impossible to contain that much fabulousness in one film. Instead, Fontaine will be focusing on some of the highlights of Chanel's youth, and what would any biopic be without a little dirt? Some of the juicier bits in the story will include Chanel's time as a cabaret singer, and her love affairs with the influential and powerful men that helped her break into the fashion world.

After a long delay, the project finally kicked into high gear last summer, and shooting began back in September. Now that Tautou is officially the first Chanel we have seen, you can't help but wonder if the rest are going to suffer by comparison -- I mean, I still haven't gotten my head around the casting of Demi Moore. So much like the label that shares the lady's name, it looks like Fontaine and company are also going to have to put up with their fair share of 'knock-offs'.

Coco Avant Chanel should arrive in theaters later this year.

More TV Stuff for Spielberg

Filed under: Comedy », Drama », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Deals », 20th Century Fox », Steven Spielberg », Home Entertainment »

Hey, we finally know why Indiana Jones 4 is taking so damn long to make -- Steven Spielberg is too busy working on his various television projects. We already know the man is involved in a reality television show and, last week, we brought you news that Spielberg was teaming up with TNT to produce a six-hour miniseries based on Stephen King's The Talisman. Well, now it appears he'll be helping to develop two new shows for Fox, one of which will definitely be of interest to fans of Back to the Future.

First up, Edward Burns will be writing a drama set in the fashion world alongside wife Christy Turlington. (Seeing as Burns' last few indie pics were huge flops, perhaps his eye for relationship-type material will garner more attention on the small screen.) Based on an idea of Spielbergs, we're not sure if this has anything to do with another project Spiel-God was interested in -- that one was supposedly written by Rod Lurie and revolved around the "glitzy New York media world." Did Spielberg change it to the "glitzy New York fashion world" and simply bring on Burns to ruin it for him? If it goes to pilot, Burns will also direct. Fantastic.

The second project is based off a script by Scott Gemmill, and its main characters are two American physicists in WWII who discover a way to travel into the future and subsequently come to 2007 in an attempt to aid the war effort ... as well as get into Paris Hilton's pants. (That last part I made up, though everyone knows how kinky those physicists are ... ) However, the film Back to the Future wasn't around in the forties, and so the men soon realize that traveling back and forth can and will affect the space-time continuum. Sounds wonderful ... now give us Indy 4!

Ridley Scott Wears Gucci

Filed under: Drama », Scripts », Newsstand »

Hollywood just cannot get enough of the fashion industry. The Devil Wears Prada isn't even out yet, and reports of fashion-related pictures are starting to roll in -- just wait until it makes millions upon millions! Why, Anna Wintour herself will be writing scripts.

The latest in the fashion vein sounds like it's going to be a really, really long movie -- tt's about the entire Gucci family. Um, ok. Who wants to see this again? According to Variety, the screenplay is being written by Andrea Berloff (who also wrote World Trade Center), and will touch on exciting stuff like tax fraud, murder, and murder-for-hire. Whoa. Nevermind: I want to see this. It'd be cooler, though, if they also mentioned the nameless cousins who do stuff like own newspaper kiosks in Italy or, say, direct traffic in Miami. Just, you know, to get the full flavor of the Gucci clan -- they can't ALL have been fashion kings or criminals, can they?

If the screenplay is ever written and ready to go, Sir Ridley Scott (!) is expected to produce and direct. Comfortably shod in, one assumes, some Gucci loafers.

Sundance Interview: Jono of Moviefone

Filed under: Sundance », Podcasts », Interviews »

While we at Cinematical aren't really into the fashion or parties of Sundance, the festival is known for everything Hollywood has, including outlandish parties and high-end fashion. Gifting consultant Jono, working in association with Moviefone, stopped by our fireplace at the Yarrow for a quick Q&A. Jono has been working in the fashion industry creating outlandishly gaudy giftbags for celebrities for New York Fashion Week and other events over the past 10 years.  This year's Sundance is his first time in Park City, and he's here working in association with Moviefone.  We sat down and talked with him for a few minutes about the idea of gifting, and he even reviewed one of the giftbags we recieved at a festival event.  Pretty entertaining interview, check it out at the download below.
