Fantastic Feud Footage!
Filed under: Horror », Fandom », Fantastic Fest »
OK, I'm sharing this video clip with you despite the fact that, like most of you, I hate seeing myself on video and I hate the sound of my own voice. But the guys over at Dell Lounge were kind enough to put together a video package from my game-show hosting debut, and it just seems right that I share my humiliation on a massive scale. The very brief and uneventful history of Fantastic Feud: About nine days before Fantastic Fest '07 began, I asked Alamo Drafthouse Lord Tim League if I could help out in some small way. "Perhaps I could host a Texas Hold 'Em poker tournament ... or some sort of horror trivia game show," is pretty much what I said. Tim loved the second idea, so I started coming up with a bunch of trivia questions. The topics ranged from "non-zombie Romero" to "old old school," but the big finale was a "name the director" marathon that I tossed together at the last minute. (I was also very worried that I didn't write enough questions, but turns out I had way more than enough.)
Anyway, the event turned out to be a massive success, thanks mainly to the beers that kept arriving every 12 minutes. Plus we closed the evening with a drunken karaoke session that must surely rank among history's most absurd evenings. My thanks to all who helped out, participated, and stopped by to enjoy the insanity. For the rest of you, we offer this degrading video spectacle that I hope to god my mom never sees.
P.S. The game-show host costume was Tim's idea. It will not be returning for Fantastic Feud II.

Footage from 'Jackass 2.5' Hits Net

I've never been a fan of Jackass, although I will admit to being inebriated several months back and finding the original movie to be somewhat funny. I think Johnny Knoxville and his clan of morons know who their audience is, and they subsequently provide their fans with tons and tons of memorable material. That said, following the success of Jackass: Number Two (and contrary to what they might have said immediately following its release) it seems the boys aren't done with all the stunts and disgusting behavior. In fact, Knoxville even said there was so much footage leftover, as well as stuff they never got to shoot, that at one point they'd have to release another film. So, folks, I bring you ... Jackass 2.5.
Yup, the boys are back again, and some brief footage from their latest flick was recently leaked to SlashFilm. In it, the tiny fellow (sorry, I haven't had a chance to memorize all their names) points to a television monitor and claims they're right smack in the middle of shooting the "opening to 2.5." Peter from SlashFilm then updated his post to include this little tidbit: "Bam Margera apparently made an appearance on the Howard Stern Show earlier today, and let it slip that the Don Vito teeth pull which was shown in the television ads and movie trailer will be one of the cut segments featured on the all new release." Awesome! I love me a good teeth-pulling session. Additionally, SlashFilm says Jackass 2.5 will go straight to DVD and arrive on shelves this Christmas.
'Incredible Hulk' Footage Now Online

I probably should've written this post last night, but couldn't find the time to get to it. If I had written it last night, then I would've been able to include Iron Man here as well, however those tricksters over at Paramount have removed the Iron Man ComicCon footage from YouTube and so we're all sh*t out of luck. I did happen to catch the Iron Man stuff before it was taken down, and I have to say it all looked pretty fantastic. I've never been an Iron Man fan, and I was weary about Jon Favreau taking on such an ambitious project, but based on what they showed it looks like Iron Man could be the film to watch out for come next summer. Another film that has lots of people talking is The Incredible Hulk re-launch -- with Edward Norton signed up to play the green monster before he's made angry.
Luckily, the brief snippet of footage from next summer's The Incredible Hulk is still online over at YouTube (as of right this second). I'm not sure if it's just not important enough to take down, or if there's barely enough there to be worried about -- but at least I have something to hand you this morning. Unlike the four plus minutes of Iron Man stuff, this Hulk "concept art" is only about 20 seconds and it features a close-up of the new Hulk, in all his green, angsty glory. Cinematical's Kevin Kelly live-blogged the entire Marvel panel at ComicCon, and so to hear more about what stars Edward Norton and Liv Tyler had to say about their roles, head on over here. Luckily, we were also able to grab some secret footage of the Hulk's transformation which, I'll admit, is a little rough and cartoonish in its current form -- but hey, at least it's something. The Incredible Hulk will smash its way into theaters on June 13, 2008.
'Golden Compass' Footage Is Online!

Some of the first decent footage from New Line's upcoming adaptation of The Golden Compass has arrived online in the form of a behind-the-scenes promotional clip sort of thing. The majority of it is similar to the stuff that was shown to a group of us last month in London while on set, and it appears to all be coming together quite nicely. Pic is based on the first book in Philip Pullman's fantasy trilogy, was written and directed by Chris Weitz, and stars Daniel Craig, Nicole Kidman, Eva Green and Dakota Blue Richards.
Though a lot of the effects aren't completed yet, it's still not hard to be impressed by Dennis Gassner's production design. When we were on set, Gassner spent about 45 minutes or so guiding us through the film's entire word; showing us stills, clips and concept art that absolutely blew our minds. In the 10 minutes of footage we watched, none of the daemons had been digitally created yet, but now, based on this footage, it seems some of that has been done ... though I would expect the finished product to look a lot more detailed than it does now. The Golden Compass takes place in a parallel universe to ours -- one that kind of looks like a futuristic version of the 1920s -- and follows a young girl named Lyra on a journey up North to save her best friend who's been kidnapped (along with a lot of other kids) by a mysterious organization. We'll have more from the set, as well a ton of behind the scenes goodies, as we draw closer to the pic's December 7 release date.
Seven Minutes of Spidey 3 and a New Trailer Heading Our Way

For those of you who still haven't seen enough of Spider-Man 3, and are thirsty for more footage, more trailers, more everything -- the folks at Sony are hitting the streets hard next week with enough web slinging to hold you off until pic swings into theaters on May 4. This Monday night, seven minutes of Spider-Man 3 footage will be aired alongside the NBC show Heroes, with one minute coming during and six minutes afterwards. That's the good news. Oh, but wait -- there's better news. Exactly one hour prior to Heroes, Cinematical will exclusively bring you a detailed outline of all the footage being aired, as well as a Q&A with Spider-Man 3 producer Avi Arad. Yes, we're seeing the footage early, and you bet your bottom we'll be all over that bad boy.
If for some reason you miss the Heroes broadcast, then a brand new Spider-Man trailer will debut in front of 300 next weekend. And I know you'll be seeing 300 ... a little birdie told me so. The trailer will only run for a little under two minutes, but I am sure it will be chock-full of some fantastic Spidey action. On top of all this, a new piece of Spidey artwork has hit the streets; Superhero Hype has your first look at the colorful new poster. Can you believe we're only two months away from Spider-Man 3? Have you started counting down the seconds yet? Remember folks, swing by Cinematical this Monday night for a ton of exclusive Spider-Man 3 insanity; then definitely make sure you switch over to NBC to get a giant taste of what we're in store for come May 4.
Rocky Balboa Footage

Okay, so maybe it's not a film that's on your "Holy crap, I can't wait to see this" list. Maybe you feel Sly Stallone should have ended his Rocky saga long ago. Maybe, like me, you're interested, but not sold. Regardless of the way you feel about Rocky Balboa, the first footage from the film has hit the net and, while short, manages to pack the kind of punch I believe Stallone set out to accomplish.
The scene itself is a slow-motion shot of Rocky heading through the tunnel, gearing up for what appears to be his final fight against the heavyweight champ, Mason "The Line" Dixon. Walking alongside the champ are his son and everyone's favorite drunk, Uncle Pauly. As some smooth music blares, Rocky looks tired. He's spent. He's afraid. This fight is a mistake and he knows it. Sure, it's a tiny scene and I'm reading into it a bit much, but it definitely serves a purpose. I want to see this film. I believe there's a story there. I hope Stallone pulls it off.
Behind the scenes look at Dreamgirls
Filed under: Drama », Music & Musicals », Dreamworks », Movie Marketing », Remakes and Sequels »
As Whitney at Pop Candy rightly points out, the early
"teaser" that went up at the Dreamgirls
website was a complete ripoff made up of unmoving female shapes, groovy music, sequins, and blue light. So little
happened that it wasn't even worthy of the "teaser" label - and you know that's gotta be bad. Now, though,
there's finally something worth watching up on the website. While behind-the-scenes footage is often a synonym for "throwaway crap," at this point we're so desperate for a glimpse at the movie that behind-the-scenes stuff actually sounds like a gift from the gods. Though nothing, you know, actually happens in the footage, we do finally get to see Beyoncé in a couple of wigs (she looks gorgeous, as usual, and exactly like a fake Supreme should), former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson gushing (we know the girl can sing, but I'm a little worried about the whole acting thing), Eddie Murphy in hilarious clothes (thankfully, he doesn't sing), and Jamie Foxx in costume and dancing, if only for a split second (it surprised me, but he looks perfect).
So, if you need something to tide you over until the next crumb, go check it out. Otherwise, get comfortable - the film won't be released until December 22. (Sniff sniff - is that Oscar bait I smell?)
