Did Darabont's 'Indiana Jones' Script Leak Online?

Filed under: Action », Fandom », Scripts », Steven Spielberg », Remakes and Sequels »

Well, this is an interesting find, Dr. Jones. Apparently, a PDF document claiming to be Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods, as written by Frank Darabont, has found its way online. There's no word yet on whether it's the real deal, and I haven't had the time to read through the whole thing, but it might be worth a look. To recap: Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption) wrote an early draft of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Legend has it Steven Spielberg really liked his draft, but George Lucas did not. Thus, Darabont eventually left the project -- one he'd worked on tirelessly -- time went by, and David Koepp finally wound up with it.

But what happened to Darabont's unused script -- the one Spielberg apparently loved? Who knows. Some people say aliens took it one night when Darabont wasn't paying attention, while others believe it was buried with one of them rare crystal skulls in the mountains of Peru. Regardless, folks are saying it's now online and you can read it right here. I'd do it fast, though, because someday a crazy wild-eyed scientist or a kid (or an angry studio) might show up lookin' for that there script (which includes both Papa Jones and Marion, by the way).

Again, it could be an elaborate fake. Nevertheless, I suppose you now have something to read while on the shi .... ahem.

You Knew This Was Coming ... First 'Indy 4' Set Pics (*See Update Below)

What appear to be the first pics from the still-under-construction Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods (aka Indiana Jones 4) set have just popped online. Taken from the Universal lot, the pics seem to show the entrance to some sort of cave, with what looks like the symbol of a golden lion welcoming visitors to a place where I'm sure Indiana Jones and his cohorts will eventually wind up. Could this be one of the temples where Indy goes searching for a crystal skull, as previously reported? Who knows. What I do know is that if I were you, I'd get ready for lots more Indiana Jones in the coming weeks. From what I hear, every movie site known to man is currently prepping for a pilgrimage up to New Haven, Connecticut at the end of this month where Steven Spielberg will be shooting some sort of chase scene through the streets and across the Yale campus. All we know right now is that Harrison Ford will be present, so chances are pics of the 60 year-old action star will begin flooding the internet in no time. (Personally, I want one of him going to the bathroom ... with the classic Indy hat still on!)

It's also been recently reported that filming will take place in Deming, New Mexico where, apart from dressing some locations up to pass as Morocco, it appears folks are also turning the Deming air strip into Nevada's Nellis Air Force Base. Not only is Nellis close to Area 51, but it was also a testing site for nuclear missiles back in the 50s. What does Indy have to do with Nellis? Why is he there? By the time the film finally comes out on May 22, 2008, I'm sure we'll have all those answers and more. Ah spoilers, what would we do without them?

*Like every other site, we got duped on this -- the pics turned out to be from National Treasure 2. If you can't trust a shady Czech website, who can you trust?

Source Says 'Indy 4' Villain Is ... Evil Cate Blanchett!

Filed under: Action », RumorMonger », Fandom », Remakes and Sequels »

Apparently, today is going to be filled with all sorts of tasty Indy 4 nuggets. This morning, IESB tapped into their own well of spy resources in an attempt to back up the info provided by CHUD last week. (Here's where you might want to read that piece before moving ahead, as the following might not seem to make any sense unless you're equipped with all the necessary knowledge. Oh, and these are pretty spoiler-ific details.) First, IESB has confirmed that Cate Blanchett will not be playing Indy's love interest, but instead some sort of Russian villain. There's no word whether her character will be in the vein of Alison Doody's part love interest/part baddie character from The Last Crusade, but my instincts tell me they won't rehash an old storyline.

Next, Shia LaBeouf will play Indy's son, a greaser, who doesn't meet up with his adventurous pops until a pivotal scene in the film. It's true that Karen Allen will most likely reprise her role as Marion Ravenwood, and that she is Shia's mother. All of that stuff about Area 51, Russian agents, South American pyramids and Crystal Skulls is true; in fact, IESB says there will be 13 skulls to be exact. The working title for the film is Indiana Jones and the City of the Gods, but that might be changed to incorporate something about the skulls (Indiana Jones and the City of Gods Who Like Skulls?). Furthermore, the script is indeed a hybrid of several scripts, including Frank Darabont's alien conspiracy take. So, when you see stuff like Area 51, don't automatically assume that belongs with shelved material. Personally, I dig the fact that Blanchett will be a villain and not a love interest -- it will certainly be interesting to see how they use her. Will she be the one squaring off with Indy in his last classic showdown? Stay tuned folks, the news keeps breaking ...
