From the Editor's Desk: No, I Did Not Steal Those Indiana Jones Photos

Filed under: Action », Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom », Newsstand », Remakes and Sequels »

Throughout my entire life, I've had to deal with people who think they're clever and original when saying: "Oh, Erik Davis ... like the baseball player!" Luckily, there's only one relatively famous man with the same name as I, and even then only hardcore baseball fans know who he is. But it still happens all the time. One day, about 10 years ago, I actually got to meet the baseball player Eric Davis during a Yankees game. It was always a dream of mine to tell him exactly how horrible it was growing up with the same name as him, and when I finally got the chance, he laughed, signed my ticket and high-fived me. Oh well. Anyway, this morning I woke up to a bunch of people IM'ing me with things like, "So, how much were you trying to sell those Indiana Jones photos for?" and "Ooohh, you have to tell me more about those Indiana Jones photos!"

Obviously, I had no idea what they were talking about until my friend sent me a link to that story about the dude who ripped off thousands of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skulls photos. We first told you about the situation the other day, back when IESB had already broke the news that this guy was caught in a sting operation. Well, it took the rest of the world a few days to catch up, and finally the culprit's name has been released to the media: Roderick Eric Davis. Nice. Thankfully, it's spelled with a 'C' and there's that whole 'Roderick' thing in front of the name, but still -- I imagine some folks might glance past the story and say to themselves, "Isn't that the guy who runs Cinematical?" Well, it's not me. And I have no idea who he is. But wouldn't it be wonderful if Eric Davis (the baseball player) woke up this morning to someone asking him about the missing Indiana Jones photos? Mmmm, one can only hope ... high five!

Karen Allen Joins 'Indy 4,' Source Says

The intense secrecy surrounding Fourth Installment of the Indiana Jones Adventure is finally starting to let up. Ryan reported spoiler-laced details of the plot this morning, along with the information that Shia LaBeouf's character will be a Fonzie greaser type. And now Chud is reporting that -- hallelujah! -- Karen Allen will be returning to one of the all-time great "girlfriend of the hero" roles: Marion Ravenwood. Growing up, Allen was my dream girlfriend, what with the classic love interest trifecta of National Lampoon's Animal House, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Scrooged -- three movies that meant a lot to me as a kid. She's beautiful (but not too beautiful), and exudes charm, humor, and intelligence. She also seems to put up with a lot, which is something I tend to require in a mate.

Paramount is not commenting on the casting news, so there's no official confirmation. But sources are reporting that it is a done deal, and we all know "sources" are never wrong. It looks like Marion will be, as long suspected, the mother of the Lebeouf character. And assuming the word on the street is true that Indy is the father, well...you know what that means. (It means they did it). (And by "it," I mean "sexual intercourse.") (And that the sexual intercourse in question led to the creation of Shia LaBeouf's character). Allen has acted steadily since her debut in Animal House, but the last performances of hers you probably saw were in 2000's The Perfect Storm and 2001's In the Bedroom. Allen is 55 years-old, which I think will go a long way toward chilling out the age-bashing of Harrison Ford that is sure to be the subject of many a late-night monologue joke in the coming year. With Hollywood the way it is, I'd been worried they'd pair him with Jessica Alba or something. I've resisted it as long as I can, but I'm officially losing my concerns that this thing will suck. Viva Allen!

Koepp now on Indy 4

Filed under: Action », Fandom », Scripts », DIY/Filmmaking », Steven Spielberg », Remakes and Sequels »

Steven Spielberg spoke to Fox News columnist Roger Friedman last night at the Academy Governor's Ball and the director claimed that he's taking a year off. His film, Munich, was so non-existent at the Oscars, if it weren't for the random shots of Spielberg, I would have forgotten all about it. What was it called again?

Anyway, while this news obviously means we are waiting that much longer for Indy 4, it does not mean there won't be a sequel. According to Spielberg, he is still directing the film...sometime before he dies. Phew. Also, it appears as if Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the latest draft of Indy 4, has been taken out of the game for reliever David Koepp. Spielberg says, "I have David Koepp in it now, and he's my closer." Well, if the story is anything like Koepp's version of War of the Worlds, then it appears as if this one may slip away from us in the bottom of the ninth.

Ford off Godspeed and on Indy 4

By the time this whole Indy 4 nonsense is all said and done, I think I'm going to compile a list of all quotes spoken by Harrison Ford, George Lucas, Steven Spielberg and Frank Marshall. Once I have them all laid out on some industrial role of construction paper, I believe I will travel to a wide open field and burn them...while laughing maniacally towards the moon and screaming, "Damn you Indiana Jones!"

Okay, now that I've exposed my troubled side, Harrison Ford recently spoke with Moviehole and divulged more information regarding some of his upcoming projects. First off, how about the stuff he's not working on? According to Ford,  “Godspeed is gone, that was a space project with James Cameron." The ambitious sci-fi pic was to tell of an evil that invades a space station and threatens to kill everything. Next up for Ford was supposed to be Manhunt, a story about the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. Ford says, "That would seem to be next”.  “[There’s] a bunch of other things that have come to fruition...recently." Hmm, sounds to me like someone is unofficially telling us that Indy 4 is heating up.

On another Indy note, Steven Spielberg finally went on record the other day by telling someone in Israel that he's "about to make Indiana Jones 4, which is, as far as I am concerned, the sweet dessert I could give those who had to chow down on the bitter herbs that I've used in Munich. There you have it - Indy 4 is officially still kind of officially happening soon...we think.

Madsen in Indy 4?

Looks like our friend Indiana Jones may have a bit of a crush on a dame named Virginia Madsen. Oh, I bet you thought I meant Michael Madsen, huh? Makes one wonder, when you hear the name Madsen, which of the two do you think of first - Virginia or Michael? Personally, I go with Virginia...because she's hotter.

Anyway, while promoting the crap out of his new film Firewall, Harrison Ford had some very nice things to say about Madsen, who plays his on screen wife in the film. "She was an absolute delight - professional, very talented and simply, very sweet." Okay, we get it - you have to kiss her ass a little in order to get folks to watch your movie - but what about Indy 4? "She also took what could have been a fairly one-dimensional damsel in distress role and added so many layers to it - there isn't many who could do that." Actually, there are many who could do that - but what about Indy 4!?

"I'd work with her again. I'm actually hoping she'll come over for Indiana Jones. We've talked about it." Yes! Finally! So if Madsen lands a role alongside Indy, who would she play? A wife? A mistress? An evil wife/mistress? Either way, we know she'd play a love interest of sorts. I mean, c'mon - Indy digs those blondes. Don't we all?

Indy 4: Title and plot details?

With not much to do this weekend, I decided to troll through the deepest and darkest places on the net in search of more details regarding some of our favorite highly anticipated films. In doing so, I stumbled upon a posting made on IMDB in which the poster (we'll call him daviebaby150) claimed to have title and plot info for Indiana Jones 4. Though he does not say where he obtained this info and because I have not seen it anywhere else, I figured I would throw it out here and see if anyone else knows whether or not there is any truth behind these rumors.

Daviebaby (cute name, huh?) claims the official title will be Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Sun. No relation to Spielberg's Empire of the Sun, of course. Here's what he had to say regarding plot: "'Indiana Jones will have to deal with his greatest fears in the upcoming fourth adventure in the series. When Indy's son is recruited by an English gentleman to go in search of an artifact of immense power hidden deep in the Amazon, Indy's father suspects something is not right. Soon he stumbles upon a terrifying plot by a powerful secret society hell bent on recovering an ancient power. Teamed once again with his father Henry (Sean Connery) and the English Gentleman's Daughter, Sabrina, they head out to the amazon where both parties discover an ancient civilization still existing. But will Indy be able to stop the secret society from harnessing the Mayan's Powers and taking over the world? And can Sabrina be trusted?

Hmm, sounds an awful like Temple of Doom if you ask me. Personally, I can't imagine them going in this direction. Could this have been an earlier draft? Is daviebaby150 simply making the enitre thing up? Or (and this is a pretty big stretch) could this indeed be what we're in store for with the new Indiana Jones? I'll leave it up to you to decide.
