Trailer for 'The House Bunny'

Filed under: Comedy », Sony », Movie Marketing », Trailers and Clips »

After viewing the trailer for Anna Faris' new comedy The House Bunny for a second time, my review can only be summed up by the immortal words of Han Solo: "I've got a bad feeling about this." You can now check out the trailer above for the Playmate comedy starring Faris as a down-on-her-luck Playboy bunny named Shelley who becomes the den mother to a 'socially clueless' sorority.

Faris is joined by Rumer Willis, Kat Dennings and Katherine McPhee (of American Idol fame) as the loser girls of Zeta House. As Shelley teaches them about the important things in life like lip gloss and dancing in high heels, she learns valuable lessons about being not hot ... or something. The only real question I had after watching the trailer was how did Colin Hanks get talked into doing this movie?

Katherine McPhee Finds 'Success'

Filed under: Drama », Independent », Casting »

Forget a singing career, American Idol appears to be a better jumping ground for acting. So far, one Idol contestant has gone on to win an Oscar, and now Season 5 runner-up Katherine McPhee is building up a movie career. Currently, she's working on the comedy I Know What Boys Like (aka the Anna Faris Playboy Bunny movie), in which she plays a pregnant hippie in need of a makeover, and she just told MTV that she already has her next project lined up. Titled Success, the indie drama begins shooting in November, and the singer-actress compared its dark style to that of the Coen Brothers and Jim Jarmusch. She also said it features great writing and well-developed, quirky characters. Unfortunately, she couldn't give away any of the film's plot or much else, really, but she did reveal a bit about her character, which she says is a nice, sweet girl who seems to end up having to compete for the attention of a guy, though she admits it is much more complicated than that. Could Success be the same thing as "the dark romantic comedy" The Last Caller, which was announced back in June as McPhee's big-screen debut? Maybe.

McPhee isn't about to concentrate solely on her acting career, though, and already has plans for her second album, with which she wants to become the female John Mayer. Of course, Mayer doesn't do movies in addition to making music, even though he should (he was a great Henry Higgins in 6th grade -- I should know, I played his butler -- hmm, I wouldn't mind playing McPhee's butler, but in real life ... ). Meanwhile, Season 5 winner Taylor Hicks probably won't last as long in the limelight, considering he had the lowest-selling Idol debut, and doesn't seem to be trying for a film career. I have to salute McPhee, who was also rumored to be considered for the role of Wonder Woman, for being able to transcend her Idol loss -- if for nothing else, hers and Jennifer Hudson's success with movies should certainly make everyone dismiss From Justin to Kelly as a reason not to go from Idol to Hollywood.

American Idol's Katherine McPhee Will Make Feature Debut in 'The Last Caller'

American Idol runner-up Katherine McPhee has decided the time is right to finally make her big-screen debut, and the Hollywood Reporter tells us she'll be doing so in the indie dark romantic comedy The Last Caller. Although the singer/songwriter (who finished second behind Taylor "Why Do I Twitch So Much" Hicks on the hit TV show two seasons ago) claims she's "up for a couple of big studio projects," McPhee was eager to make her first on-screen appearance in a starring role. (Guess someone wasn't keen on playing Mall Girl #5 in next summer's Iron Man -- not that we know she was offered it, but I imagine that's the type of stuff heading her way.)

Written by Michael Albanese, the story (as HR describes it) doesn't make much sense. They call it a "coming-of-age tale about a self-obsessed woman (McPhee) who searches for love, hope and meaning during a few random events with other urban seekers." Huh? What the f**k is that supposed to mean? Three gold stars to anyone (an "urban seeker," perhaps?) who can tell me what in the world this film is going to be about. With a budget that will fall somewhere between $5 million-$8 million, pic is scheduled to begin shooting this fall in and around New York. Hit and Run Prods. will produce along with Zenith Film Group, and the great Robert Hawk will serve as an associate producer (Hawk's involvement definitely makes me feel a bit better about the whole thing). What say you Idol fans -- does McPhee have what it takes to become the next big thing?

Wonder Woman Casting Rumor #438: Sophia Bush Says Maybe ...

Filed under: Action », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Casting », RumorMonger », Fandom », Comic/Superhero/Geek »

Yes, we now officially have another name to throw in the Wonder Woman pot -- this time around, it's actress Sophia Bush who seems to be raising more than a few eyebrows. IESB recently sat down with Bush to discuss her role in The Hitcher remake, and decided to bring up a rumor they had heard awhile back but never wrote about. When asked whether she had discussed playing Wonder Woman with the powers that be, Bush simply replied, "Maybe." Oh, and then she smiled.

Bush's name has now been added to a long list of potential actresses up for the role, which includes Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, Charisma Carpenter, Jessica Biel, American Idol's Katherine McPhee (chalk that one up as the most bizarre), Rachel Bilson and Cinematical's own Kim Voynar. (Keep in mind, Kim has nothing whatsoever to do with Wonder Woman, but I thought it would be fun to toss her name into the mix as well. Go Kim!)

Though we still don't know exactly where Joss Whedon is in the production process (re-writing draft 15, perhaps?), it can't be long before his star is announced. As far as Sophia Bush goes, she fits the perfect age range (unlike back when she was replaced by Claire "Why am I so boring" Danes in Terminator 3 for being "too young"), certainly looks the part (then again, there are thousands of pretty brunettes out there in La La Land) and, according to IESB, she has a kick-ass physique -- one that's capable of, well, kicking ass. So I guess we'll see -- is "maybe" with a smile enough to get excited? Not for me ... but I could care less about a big-screen version of Wonder Woman. Your thoughts?

McPhee Talks Wonder Woman

Filed under: Action », Casting », RumorMonger », Fandom », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »

Following in the footsteps of Rachel Bilson, American Idol star Katherine McPhee recently addressed the Wonder Woman casting rumors which have popped up about her recently. Unlike Bilson, McPhee did not deny all knowledge of these rumors, and instead seemed to be quite familiar with the talk. McPhee played coy, saying she would not "deny it or admit to it," and instead suggested it was a bit silly to create so much "buzz" about a script which, frankly, nobody has even read at this point. McPhee did admit "Yes, there have been, you know, like, conversations about it, but as far as the role being mine, or me being the lead up for it, I don't really know." Amusingly, McPhee also stated she wasn't even sure a Wonder Woman movie was being made, as she had no idea who was financing it.

So for eager fans, we can note McPhee in no way denied the role was offered to her. While Bilson and others have mostly claimed a total lack of knowledge regarding the film, McPhee was perfectly aware of the hubbub and even acknowledged there were some form of "talks" happening. And to her credit, she made a rather shrew observation when she pointed out the lack of an actual, official script at this point. In the meantime, writer/director Joss Whedon has accepted yet another comic book writing gig, somehow expecting to find time to do even more writing.
