Check Out This 'Monsters vs. Aliens' Trailer, While You Can

Video taken down at studio's request
It may be bootlegged -- and therefore a limited-time offering -- but from very early on, this trailer for next spring's 3-D animated bonanza Monsters vs. Aliens had me sold and only worked its way up from there.
I like that all of the human characters appear to be related to the Parr family, and that the monsters and aliens on display promise to look even cooler in three dimensions. I dig Stephen Colbert as the President and Keifer Sutherland as General W.R. Monger, not to mention other voices by Will Arnett, Seth Rogen, Rainn Wilson, Hugh Laurie, and Paul Rudd. (Oh, and Reese Witherspoon never did anyone any harm either.) Most importantly, the project gives off a saavy sense of humor without relying as heavily on pop culture riffs as Dreamworks used to. A '50-styled sci-fi send-up should hold my attention as much as the little ones, if done right.
Between this, Kung Fu Panda, and Over the Hedge, I think that it's fair to say that Dreamworks Animation has found a reliable niche as Pixar's hipper cousin. With any luck, I won't be proven wrong come March 27, 2009.

As someone initially unimpressed with the teaser trailer for next weekend's horror offering, Mirrors, I found myself pleasantly surprised by the unpleasantries on display in the film's restricted trailer, among them the sight of Amy Smart ripping her own jaw off (what can I say, I'm a man of simple taste).
However, I then wondered if that particular moment wasn't the best that the film had to offer. Sure, you don't want to spoil too much before a film opens, but it's a scene that has become the focus of most TV spots and -- in hindsight -- the poster, and as a plot development, I'm almost certain that it'll happen before the film hits its hour mark (a matter that no one will be able to confirm until late Thursday evening, which is its own little omen). But it fell on me to watch that part and find my interest piqued.
More on 24: The Movie

The last time we checked in on 24: The
Movie, rumor had it that Kiefer Sutherland had potentially
signed on to three
24-related films. Not for nothing, but even for you hardcore Jack Baur fans, I imagine that's a bit too
much. I mean, how many times can one guy save the world? I'm still impressed at how many times Pauly Shore managed to do it.
Supposedly, Joel Surrow, creator and executive producer of the television show, was recently a guest on the Rush Limbaugh program and, apparently, the one person who listens dished more dirt on the film version. It looks like the 24 movie will not be filmed until the summer of 2007, with a release date to fall somewhere inside the summer of 2008. I'd expect the television part to end in superb cliffhanger fashion sometime before production begins, with just enough time to get folks pumped up for the big screen return.
The other information to come out of the interview surrounded the film's time-line. While the story will still carry the same 24-hour format, it will consist of three 40-minute real-time parts in order to allow its hero to travel great distances. Oh yeah, Jack's going global baby! Yeah, because throwing this guy in rush hour traffic on a trip to the airport is an entire hour and a half right there.
Disney unveils a Wild trailer

Disney's latest animated effort, The Wild, now has a trailer online for all of you to bow down and pray to.
Directed by Steve "Spaz" Williams (I'm sure the name Spaz
will help him get tons of work), story revolves around a young lion accidentally removed from the New York Zoo and
shipped to South Africa. Now, it's up to a band of rowdy animals to head out into the city and attempt a wild
rescue.
Due out April 14th, The Wild stars Eddie Izzard, Kiefer Sutherland and Jonathan Kimmel. Ooohh, Kimmel was head writer on the Andy Milonakis Show - he must be brilliant AND hilarious. Now that we've tackled animals at the zoo, I'm wondering which species will be next? We've had fish, robots, monsters, toys, ants, bears, penguins, lions, mice...and that's just off the top of my head. Will we run out of bankable animals soon? Maybe Disney can put out something about crocodiles and call it A Croc's Tale. Get it - tale/tail? Man, I crack myself up. Someone get Kimmel on the phone, stat!
