Review: Four Christmases
Filed under: Comedy », Warner Brothers », Theatrical Reviews »

Last November, Warner Bros. released Fred Claus, a Christmas-set comedy pairing up lead Vince Vaughn with Rachel Weisz.
This November, New Line released Four Christmases, a Christmas-set comedy pairing up lead Vince Vaughn with Reese Witherspoon.
Mere coincidence, you might ask, despite the fact that New Line is owned by Warner Brothers, not to mention the shared initials of both the titles and the actresses playing the love interests? Perhaps, but happenstance loses my vote when the best one can say for Four Christmases is that it's a marginally better holiday romp than the likes of Fred Claus.
Cinematical Seven: Great Movies for Smart Girls
Filed under: Fandom », Home Entertainment », Cinematical Seven », Lists »

With Kit Kittredge: An American Girl finally opening in limited release on Wednesday, it seemed like a good time to take a look at other films girls in the same age demographic might also enjoy. As a mother of three daughters, I like to seek out films that have strong female characters. So many of the roles for females in Hollywood either fall into blatant stereotypes or position young girls and women as existing on this planet primarily for the pleasures of the male half of the species, and I don't want my girls growing up believing the images of women they're exposed to through the media. Of course, everything in life doesn't have to have a political agenda -- what fun would that be? So some of these are just films my own daughters very much enjoy, that the girl in your life might like also.
Here are seven great films for fans of American Girl books and movies ... let me know what others I've missed that you like; with only seven slots to work with, I had to leave out a lot of films I otherwise would have included ...
Kristin Chenoweth Leads Jeremy Sisto 'Into Temptation'

But can Sisto deliver them from evil? The Hollywood Reporter posts that Kristin Chenoweth is going to star with Jeremy Sisto in an upcoming indie drama called Into Temptation. And finally, a link in my brain is showing up on the big screen. News of Chenoweth (Running with Scissors), always makes me think of Sisto, the Chenowiths, and Six Feet Under, so it's about time the two were combined.
And just like the dead-filled show, this is far from an upper. "Chenoweth will play a suicidal prostitute who confesses to a priest her plans to end her life on her birthday. The priest (Sisto) then searches for her to intervene."
Firstly, I really like the idea of a priest getting emotionally involved with a story he hears during confession. It breeds a million possibilities, but really -- do we need a struggling stripper on the big screen YET AGAIN? I feel like a broken record saying this, but it keeps continuing, so how can I not? There's enough flipping strippers on the big screen, people. Use those creative juices of yours to come up with new material!
The film is written and will be directed by Patrick Coyle, and production begins next week.
Who Are the Top 10 Most Powerful Christians in Hollywood?
Filed under: Fandom », Lists », Religious »
"I need to try to write this post without pissing off a whole mess of people," Erik said to himself as he read an article on the top 10 most powerful Christians in Hollywood. Yes, such a list does exist, and unfortunately this Jew is nowhere to be found on it. Let it be known that I have nothing against Christians, or any religion for that matter, but this list just cracked me up. Over on Hollywood.com, they've posted a list (compiled on BeliefNet.com) of the 10 most powerful Christians in Hollywood (however the original list contains 12). First off, I'd love to know their definition of 'powerful.' Powerful how? Like, the number one person on the list can talk to Jesus whenever he wants, however he wants -- and, like, the number four person on the list can only communicate with Jesus through text messaging? I don't get it. But do we really need to get it?
Why don't you go ahead and take a wild guess as to who the number one most powerful Christian in Hollywood is. Yup, Mel Gibson. He likes to drink, he likes to drive, and he likes to spit out Anti-Semitic remarks at the police officers who pull him over whilst drinking and driving (hey, why not combine two lovable past times into one -- it saves time!). Here are the other nine most powerful Christians in Hollywood: 2. Denzel Washington. 3. Patricia Heaton. 4. Tyler Perry. 5. Ralph Winter. 6. Angela Bassett. 7. Martin Sheen. 8. Martha Williamson. 8. Kristin Chenoweth. 10. Philip Anschutz. Okay, I can understand how Anschutz, the 31st richest person in America, might make the list, but how does Chenoweth (who's about to star in the upcoming Space Chimps) rank higher than him? How is she a more powerful Christian?
I'd still like to know how they define 'powerful?' Over on BeliefNet, here's their reasoning behind the list: "We chose them from dozens of candidates, in consultation with insiders and observers who are part of the Christian-Hollywood scene. Those who made the Beliefnet Power Dozen are here because they have the clout to choose their career direction, while keeping their faith and even injecting it into their work in subtle or not-so-subtle ways." So, then, why not say most influential? Most spiritual? Most loved? Why use powerful? What do you make of the list? Is Mel Gibson really the most powerful Christian in Hollywood?
Hello, Dolly!

I'm not sure how Dolly Parton does it. Despite being the spitting image of an older Barbie, and being a popular Country singer, I still like her. While I wouldn't go so far as to call myself a fan, she definitely holds a place in my heart -- whether she is shocking people with a cover of Stairway to Heaven, running The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, or tying up the snarky Dabney Coleman in 9 to 5. She's got spunk. However, I do hope that my Darling Dolly gets rid of that spiky hair. It's a 'do I had in the fourth grade.
Starpulse has reported that Kristin Chenoweth has gotten a big thumbs-up to play Dolly in a biopic -- from the Smokey Mountain Songbird herself. Chenoweth, who made a name for herself on The West Wing, has had increasingly more prominent roles in film over the past few months, going from an anchorwoman in Stranger Than Fiction to fourth-billed in the new Deck the Halls. Apparently, Dolly will talk to her people, who will likely talk to Chenoweth's people, and it will be a whole people-filled communication fest. This might all be a pipe dream, but I for one would love to see Chenoweth in Dolly's bouffant 'fro from the eighties.
The film seems to only be in the beginning conception stages, but I wonder if it could really come to life. The really notable music biopics contain heart-wrenching stories and other drama. Would creators be able to make a tune we could really sink our cinematic teeth into? Furthermore, do you think Kristin Chenoweth the right choice, or is Ms. Parton totally missing the mark?
Ang Lee? Dusty Springfield? What?

A little blurb has appeared in the British press
trumpeting coke fiend Kate
Moss' Hollywood debut - and as a lesbian, no less! According to the report, Moss' appearance will take place in Ang Lee's biopic of Dusty
Springfield, in which she'll play one of the singer's (to be played by Charlize Theron) lovers. Ok, got it. Wait - what?! Since when has Ang
Lee been making a movie about Dusty Springfield? The last we heard about a Springfield movie was last spring, when Kristin Chenoweth was said to be playing her under the direction of Jessica Sharzer. But since that
movie was supposed to end with the recording of Dusty in Memphis and the Lee one is expected to cover
Springfield's entire life, they appear to be two entirely different things. The lack of any other mention of this project anywhere online (that I can find, anyway) leaves me assuming that Kate Moss' handlers have completely made it up in an effort to get her some non-crappy press. At the same time, though, the rumor is so bizarrely specific that it's hard to dismiss it entirely. Anyone have Ang's number?
Oh, and don't forget - Kate Moss! Lesbian!
