Doesn't it seem like we just went back in time? If Lindsay Lohan wasn't sporting the blonde locks in the picture above, it almost looks like this was taken during the good old days of Lohan, when she was a popular, upcoming actress, rather than a girl struggling with personal problems and tabloid frenzies.

As I told you the other day, Lindsay will have a short stint on the show, starting with the season finale this year. She's playing an old classmate of Betty's who was bitchy to Betty back in the day, but is now down on her luck.

I think this might just be the way for LiLo to work on her career -- not something that regresses her back to kid fare, but something that merges her pre-struggle past with the hopes of her present. I could be fooling myself, but it'd be nice to see the tide change for the troubled ex child stars we hear about so much these days.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Now Lohan Heads for Television

Filed under: Casting, Celebrities and Controversy, Home Entertainment
Watch out, TV land -- there's another tabloid princess on the horizon. Britney Spears' stint on How I Met Your Mother brought in a ton of viewers, and now Lindsay Lohan is getting her shot. After rumors broke last fall, Variety reports that the actress will have a guest spot on ABC's Ugly Betty. Unlike Spears, who started off with brief role, and is now reprising it, Lohan has signed on to do an extended gig. LiLo will pop up in Betty's May 22 season finale, plus another 5 episodes next season, and she's already begun filming her first stint.

It seems that LiLo will play an old schoolmate of Betty Suarez (America Ferrera). "Lohan's character was not particularly nice to Betty back then, but when the two bump into each other in the finale, Lohan's character is down on her luck, in sharp contrast to Betty's glamorous and promising career at Gotham fashion mag, Mode." Hmm... That sounds a bit familiar!

I must say -- I prefer this to the strippage, and this could be good for the actress -- re-proving her acting chops in something simple, to an already established audience, rather than mis-guided movie choices. (Although Ye Olde Times is a good pick.) Now we'll have to see if she can bring in the same audiences that Britney scored.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Rumor of the Day: Lindsay Lohan Going Nude on Film

It was almost a year ago that Lindsay Lohan claimed she wanted to be a serious actress, one who wins an Oscar. Soon after, she signed on to play a stripper in I Know Who Killed Me. To be more precise -- a stripper who gets tortured and her legs cut off. Somehow, Lohan didn't see how the hope and the action clashed. Now it seems that she's trying to make a better post-rehab go of things, but she's still completely set on this ridiculous notion that nudity equals respectability. First she redos classic Marilyn Monroe nude shots, and now some reports say that she's going to show more skin for an upcoming film called Florence.

Ace Showbiz says that the actress has signed on to play a sex-addicted waitress in the film, and that Star Magazine claims that she is going to get naked for the role. Why? "Further, it was said that the actress/singer took the opportunity to play the controversial role to show others she still has her acting skills. To the publication, a source revealed, 'She just wants to remind people she can act and she's worth hiring.'"

Lindsay, oh Lindsay... If this is true, I hope someone out there sits you down and at least tries to make you understand this: Showing skin does not equal respectability. It will not magically wipe away your past turmoil. It will not make people think more of you. What will prove you have the talent -- acting! You don't need to strip to do it. You need to pick a film with a good role and then reveal the acting talents you're determined to showcase. Please -- keep your clothes on.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lindsay Lohan Is One of 'Manson's Girls'

Entertainment Tonight reports that Lindsay Lohan will star in the true life crime film Manson's Girls. Lohan will play Nancy Pitman, a pampered surfer girl who fell under the thrall of Charlie Manson's "charms". News of Lohan's casting hit when the film's producer, Brad Wyman, spilled the beans to ET. (I guess she has a thing for 'celebrity murderers'; I mean she's already in a film about John Lennon's murderer (Chapter 27), and now the granddaddy of all wackos?)

On August 8th, 1969, Charles Manson directed four members of his 'Family' to the home of an absent Roman Polanski and his pregnant girlfriend Sharon Tate. By the morning, Manson's followers had brutally murdered five people (including Tate). Pitman never took part in the brutal murders of Tate and four other people that night. But, she was eventually charged with being an accessory after the fact and served 18 months. There were even rumors that she returned to the Tate house with Manson after the murders to help plant false evidence.

So far, there isn't much info about the film, but since the title is Manson's Girls, I can only assume that they are going to need to hire a few more gals to fill out the cast. Likely, to take on the roles of Manson devotees Susan Atkins, Patricia Krenwinkel, and Linda Kasabian. Not to mention who is going to play the head loon himself, Charlie. So while Girls might have the potential to be a half decent movie, the whole thing leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Especially if Manson's Girls turns into some horrible hybrid of Helter Skelter and I Know Who Killed Me.

Do you want to see a film about the Manson girls? And shouldn't it be called Manson Girls Gone Wild?

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

'Chapter 27' Is Finally Here

The most annoying thing about following movie news and patronizing film festivals is the pesky waiting. You hear about a film, you get excited, and then you wait. And then you wait more. Once you hit that 365-day mark, it's no longer just an exercise of patience, but trying to come to terms with the fact that you might never see the movie at all, or might never see the movie again. It seemed that this is what would happen with Chapter 27, which premiered back in January of 2007, but now, finally, the film is going into limited release this week.

To refresh your memory: this is the film about John Lennon's killer, Mark David Chapman, and details the days that lead up to the infamous day. It's got Lindsay Lohan pre-clean up, and Jared Leto all body-morphed. In an interview with New York Daily News, Leto talks about morphing into the pudgy killer, and his take on the role.

Leto used the bulking up, which he says was much harder and more physically taxing then going skeletal for Requiem for a Dream, to change his own real-life experience: "It was interesting to see people's reactions -- particularly people I knew but hadn't seen in a while and who obviously thought I'd let myself go." That's certainly a decent way to figure out a character's mindset -- that whole "walking in their shoes" technique. Leto also talks about Chapman himself and the point of the film -- that he doesn't sympathize with the man's actions, but wanted to explore his motivations.

The film has gotten a mediocre response thus far, but I'm still intrigued -- especially since I watched the also seemingly questionable Across the Universe and loved it. How about you?

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lindsay Lohan Gets with Jack Black

Filed under: Comedy, Casting, Deals, RumorMonger, Fandom, Newsstand

If someone came to me and asked, "Erik, if you could pick any two actors to appear opposite one another on screen, who would it be?" -- I'd probably tell them Kermit the Frog and Javier Bardem. But my second choice would most certainly be Lindsay Lohan and Jack Black. E! News reports that Lohan has decided to get back to work, and she'll do so by starring in the comedy Ye Olde Times, opposite everyone's favorite slightly overweight funnyman, Jack Black. The film follows "two rival Renaissance Faire troupes as they make their way through the competitive circuit." Currently, there's no word on whether Lohan will be competing with Black or against him, but regardless this film just hit my "Must See When Intoxicated" list.

Lohan, who recently left rehab to shoot the tango flick Dare to Love Me, seems keen to hop right back into the spotlight. Earlier in the week, her nude photo spread for New York Magazine was revealed, and while I'm not sure which step on the 12-step program includes nude photos for a prominent magazine, I'm sure it's probably toward the latter end. Ye Olde Times, which will be directed by R.A. White, also stars Cary Elwes, Matthew Lillard, David Arquette and Orlando Jones. The film will most likely hit at some point this year.

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Poll: When Good Guys Go Nude (Oscar Edition)

Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Fandom, Oscar Watch, Polls
The decision for any actor or actress to appear naked, whether on screen, on stage, or in photographs, can sometimes help, sometimes hurt, and sometimes not make any difference at all to the performer's career. In the case of Lindsay Lohan, her freckle-baring photos in New York Magazine may reinforce the public's perception of her as a "bad girl." We saw a very different reaction when "good guy" Daniel Radcliffe, better known as Harry Potter, stripped down for a production of the stage play Equus. While some decried the example he was setting, young women reportedly attended in droves for the opportunity to admire his (acting) form. From a career standpoint, he widened his future possibilities far beyond the family market.

On the big screen, Viggo Mortensen's deadly naked spa duel in Eastern Promises caught everyone's eye. Playing a "bad boy" with a good heart, Mortensen's willingness to display every inch of his physique only expanded his appeal. His performance earned him a nomination for an Academy Award as Best Actor. Portraying both "bad boys" and "good guys," none of the other Best Actor candidates appeared in the buff in their nominated films, though all have in the past.

As we did yesterday with the women, today we offer a selection of five Academy Award-nominated men. All have appeared naked on the big screen, either this year or in the past, with their most revealing appearance noted. Whose career benefited the most from their willingness to bare all?

View Poll

There's a million and two fests and awards ceremonies that tout all that is good in the world of cinema, but sometimes, you just want to revel in the bad. So, enter the yearly Golden Raspberry Awards.

Last year, the big, battling losers were Basic Instinct 2 and Little Man. This year, LiLo's I Know Who Killed Me is battling I Now Pronounce You Chuck & Larry and Eddie Murphy's Norbit. Miss Lohan's film has scored the first hurrah by grabbing the most nods (9 over Larry and Norbit's 8), but Eddie got the personal title with a record-setting five nods just for himself.

Rounding out the top stinker nomination-grabbers was Bratz, Daddy Day Camp, and Captivity. On the actor side of things, we've got talent wasting their abilities like Jim Carrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Julia Ormond, while others aren't so surprising -- Carmen Electra, Dane Cook, or Jessica Alba. (The last on this list, Alba, also scored herself romantic doom -- she hit the worst on-screen couple nod three times for her work in Awake, Good Luck Chuck, and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer).

Also, I give big props to the Razzie folks for their Patty Duke reference. Why waste time writing it up and losing the scoop if you can just hear the news, grab the story, and click "publish"? Well, that's what the Associate Press thinks about Britney Spears, according to Ace Showbiz. The AP have confirmed that they are preparing a blurb for that possibility, and editor Jesse Washington says: "We are not wishing it, but if Britney passed away, it's easily one of the biggest stories in a long time. I think one would agree that Britney seems at risk right now. Of course, we would never wish any type of misfortune on anybody, and hope that we would never have to use it until 50 years from now ...but if something were to happen, we would have to be prepared." Topping this off, Ace says she has chronic mood disorder and is predicted to die in six months if she doesn't get treatment. Poor Spears. Her problems seem never-ending.

Meanwhile... Morgues!
While some people are waiting for Britney to hit the slab, Yahoo reports that Lindsay Lohan will have to visit one. Still in her first legal drinking year (21), Lohan will have to work at a morgue as part of her misdemeanor drunk driving punishment. She's gone to rehab, done some community service, and now she has to do two 4-hour days at the morgue -- "part of a court-ordered program to show drivers the real-life consequences of drinking and driving." Topping that off, she'll also have to spend two days in a hospital ER. I'm sure that will be all sorts of scary for Lohan, but considering how many damned stars and celebs drink and drive, I think all of them should be put in this program.

But all hope is not lost, Wonder Woman is coming!
Justice League is kaput, and that whole live-action project for the lady with the lasso isn't going anywhere, but that doesn't mean we can't get more Wonder Woman. TV Guide reported recently that their sources say that there's a straight-to-DVD animated Wonder Woman feature on the way, and Keri Russell will be voicing the epic, Amazonian heroine. That leads me to wonder (pun!), should she pull off the voice well (and these rumors are true), could Russell also make it work in a live-action setting? Stay tuned!

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Holy Crap Batman!
No! It stings! It hurts! I'm melting! Yes, that appears to be Lindsay Lohan standing next to Batman on the set of ... just another weird photo shoot. Fear not, my JLA friends, the girl is not starring in the upcoming Justice League flick. But she is, for some odd reason, posing for a bunch of pics with Marvel and DC characters -- all of whom are dressed up in outfits you'd expect to find in the post-Halloween bargain bin at K-Mart. Dude! How can they disrespect Batman like that? And it's not only Batman -- wait till you see what they've done to Spider-Man and The Incredible Hulk. It's beyond awful. The pics come to us via IESB's celeb site, CelebSkin, which, honestly, needs someone else to write for them. I barely made it through several grammatical mistakes before finally landing on these images.* Stick them both together and I'm literally scarred for life (which, to the commenter who took me seriously, is a joke). Nothing against IESB; they just need to proof and edit. Like, a lot.

So what's the deal here? Is Lindsay trying to tell the world that she wants a role in the next big superhero flick? Or did some hot Los Angeles club simply pay her half a million to pose with superhero models to promote their establishment? Don't know, don't wanna know and, honestly, I don't care. Last week, Monika commented on that list, stating that it's not as fun reading about smarties as it is reading about the dummies. Well, in response to EW, New York's Daily News ran its own list of the "Top 50 Dumbest People in Hollywood." Not surprisingly, sitting in the number one spot is Lindsay Lohan. An obvious choice since she's been the subject of more bad decisions -- at least that the media has concentrated on -- than any other celeb out there. Well, maybe Britney Spears (shockingly far down at #14) has made more. But Lohan has also made bad career decisions in addition to her bad personal-life decisions. Go ahead and sift through Cinematical's coverage of Lohan throughout the past year or two; I challenge you to find one smart idea she's had (entering rehab doesn't count).

Since this is a tabloid, though, the Daily News' list is hardly about career smarts. Most of the people on the list are there because of their scandals, controversies and apparently unforgivable, ongoing problems. That is how Shia LaBeouf -- who should be on EW's list more than Ben Affleck should -- can be considered dumb, despite the fact that his public drunkenness arrest has hardly dented his career. Same goes for Russell Crowe, whose phone-throwing incident was more than two years ago. Other celebs are easily agreed with: former Oscar hopeful Courtney Love; almost-threw-it-all-away-at-the-beginning actress Vanessa Hudgens; K-Fed (only #38?). The chicken is the coward, and instead of a platter signifying all things delectable, turkeys are considered the foolish and often useless. To top that off -- when turkeys hit the celebrity realm, well, they're usually also box office bombs. In honor of our never-ending love of celebrity gossip, train-wrecks, and disaster stories, I present you with seven tasty turkeys in honor of our upcoming turkey day. Many are just a gross waste of potential, and some, I'm sure you'll agree, don't even have half the potential that studios give them credit for. Whatever the reason, they're all riding the stinker train.

Gobble, gobble!

Paris Hilton

She's mocked by many, loved by few, but Paris Hilton seems to be able to outlast even the little train that could. Prison didn't stop her, and neither do crappy movies. Working backwards: Pledge This! was so very bad that it's pretty much off the radar; the same goes for Bottoms Up; House of Wax did alright, but doesn't hold the moviegoer love; and, which Hillz? Yet somehow, somewhere, she got cast in Repo! The Genetic Opera!, which let her loose on the streets of Toronto to gripe over sex tape woes. We keep waiting for her to fall, or go away, but I'm starting to think that this super-skinny turkey is here to stay. She's like one of those inflatable boxing stand-ups that somehow swings its way upright each and every time.

Jamie Kennedy

There was a time when Jamie Kennedy made my mouth break out into a huge smile and my hands clap with glee. In 1996 he was the best scary movie geek to ever hit the big screen -- Randy Meeks in Scream. He had the humor, the delivery, and the sexy geek charm. For a while after that, he moved along decently, racking up a resume that includes As Good as It Gets and Three Kings. Well, he must've gone crazy after that. These days, what have we gotten? Malibu's Most Wanted. Son of the Mask. Kickin' It Old School. Do I even need to mention box office numbers? The movies went from dumb money-makers into dumb money-losers. The last remnants of Randy seem to be gone, and now he's mainlining crappy movies with the passion of a heroin addict. It's a damned shame.

Jessica Simpson

Ah, the wonderful contradiction that is Jessica Simpson. She presents herself as an utter bimbo, but her mom says she has an IQ of 160! (Maybe she didn't realize that IQ meme's don't count.) So really, she's not so much a contradiction as she doesn't seem interested in exemplifying her so-called smarts. Nevertheless, she's been trucking her way through an acting career. The torture device that was Dukes of Hazzard started things off, which I think everyone went to see out of nostalgia (and who then mourned the death of said nostalgia). Then Employee of the Month came along, which did alright but still. Alas, there's been nothing for us to see since. Her Blonde Ambition flopped before it got a chance, like Jim Levenstein's penis in American Pie. And then there's Major Movie Star, which needs the title because, let's face it -- Jessica Simpson will never be one.

Jude Law

I don't necessarily like including Jude Law in this list, but how can I not? I can't count the number of times I have heard people complain about Law and his movie choices lately. He's just not raking in the money, or even breaking even in many cases. Sleuth hasn't even hit a million dollar worldwide gross; if it wasn't for the worldwide box office, The Holiday would've fallen way short of its budget; All the King's Men pulled in a domestic gross under $8 million, when its production budget was $55 million... And so on, and so forth. The man has had some great roles, and I'll be ever-grateful for his stint in I Heart Huckabees, but it's amazing just how many stinkers this man is getting involved in, and how it has yet to affect his career. Hopefully My Blueberry Nights or Repossession Mambo help, because the dude is plummeting -- fast.

M. Night Shyamalan

After throwing out two movies that many people don't even know existed, M. Night Shyamalan hit it beyond 15 ballparks with The Sixth Sense. That sucker was gold. But since then, it's just been slowly fading away. I must admit: I liked both Signs and The Village, although many people have knocked them (especially the latter). While nothing compared to seeing dead people, his films were only suffering a gentle decline -- until that slow drop-off hit a cliff. Instead of making tons of money like his previous blockbusters, Lady in the Water barely made its money back, and became the big proof of Shyamalan's directorial demise. Can he make it come back with The Happening? Will it even matter if it's good? How many people still have faith in the guy? I'd like to see the man do well, but eesh, he's got to come up with some new material -- stat!

Lindsay Lohan

LiLo, oh, LiLo. We're still waiting to see if she keeps her place on the Thanksgiving platter post-rehab, but until she proves otherwise, she's probably one of the biggest wastes to hit the air in a long time. It's not just bad choices, but a lifestyle that spiraled out of control, ripping her from her red roots and throwing her into a garish, bleached, drug-addled lifestyle of trauma, drama, and driving trouble. It's hard to believe that she's only been in 11 movies so far. After getting high marks for Mean Girls, she plummeted. Herbie got her money but hurt her cred, A Prairie Home Companion was to be her big switch, but that didn't happen. Unfortunately, none of her recent movies have budgets up on Box Office Mojo, but there wasn't much mojo to be had with Just My Luck, Georgia Rule, or I Know Who Killed Me.

Zach Braff

While the women of the list have been pretty easy to throw up, it's been hard to pick a few of these guys. All of them have the potential, but something just isn't clicking -- and Zach Braff is no exception. After popping up in The Baby-Sitters Club way back in 1993, Braff worked himself up to a starring role in Scrubs, the excellent voice of Paul Revere on Clone High, and the fun and lovable indie romance, Garden State. It looked like he was heading for all sorts of wonder. But Scrubs has been waffling for a while now, and beyond Chicken Little, what does Braff have? The Last Kiss couldn't even make its $20 million budget back. Then came The Ex, which couldn't even bring in $5 mill -- that's right, it only brought in $4,168,762 worldwide! The guy hasn't even been in enough good films to balance the crap, so unless things turn around with Open Hearts, he might find himself trying to cry into a paper cup once again.

It was a trying time for us fans, but the streets of Los Angeles were safer without her car on the road. In an interview with OK! Magazine, La Lohan said of her time in Utah's Cirque Lodge (a drug and alcohol treatment center), "It was a sobering experience. It was humbling. It made me look at myself, and all of the people, places and things in my life in a different way. I was in there for substance abuse, after all." I like how she adds that last sentence in there, as if she wanted to say -- "I was in rehab idiots, did you expect me to talk to you about running around the grounds naked, with a monkey in a pink dress, while holding a cocktail and a menthol?"

But enough about the scandal, when will we see Lohan back up on the big screen -- I mean, that's if she doesn't quit Hollywood and all. She says, "I'm staying in Utah until it's time to shoot Dare to Love Me, and then I plan on returning to Utah so I can stay focused, and avoid other distractions." Did we already know Lohan was shooting that film? I don't think so. Last time we talked about Dare to Love Me, the film which tells the story of Argentinian tango legend Carlos Gardel, both Paz Vega and the singer-turned-actress Shakira were up for roles opposite Rodrigo Santoro in the flick. Alfonso Arau (A Walk in the Clouds) is set to direct off a script by Jeremy Leven (The Notebook), and I imagine Lohan will play some sort of American love interest (God help me if she tries an accent). Of course, let's see if the actress actually makes it to work this time; in the past year, she's walked away from at least three (or is it four?) different films. There's no further word on the film, or her involvement, but I imagine it will start shooting soon. In the meantime, check out our Lohan gallery below (pre-rehab), and we hope the gal makes it through in good health (and spirits) this time without pissing off the entire state of Utah.

Well, I guess "they" haven't visited Lindsay Lohan in rehab lately. Yup, it's a slow news day, which means I get to write a post about my favorite woman in the whole entire world -- add to that the universe, too -- Lindsay La Lohan. She's beautiful, she's sexy and she probably knows where you can score some good rehab -- the perfect bride? I think maybe. Anyway, according to Hollywood.com (via WENN), Lohan's father (who's just slightly more messed up than his daughter) visited Lindsay recently at the Cirque Lodge treatment center. After dodging a group of weird French acrobats, he finally made his way to his adorable baby girl -- who apparently had a lot to say regarding her future film career.

Now I want you to read the following Lohan quote, and I don't want you to laugh. It's not nice. Here's dad recalling his daughter's words: "Lindsay said, 'Daddy, I have done some terrible things and been addicted to drugs, but please believe me, I will never do drugs again. I hate Hollywood and I don't want to work there. I need a break and I am moving away. I will stop hanging around with the people that are bad for me.' "She said she does not want to live in Hollywood, as that is where the evil in her life happens." Ya think, pops? In fact, I'd make the case that evil follows Lindsay around like an expensive dog that barks repeatedly. So is this the end of Lindsay Lohan's movie career? Has she decided to give it all up and become a nun? Or is Lindsay's dad simply auditioning to become her new publicist? Who knows, but enjoy the Emmys!

Permalink | Email this | Comments

Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton to Finally Get the Biopic Treatment?

Filed under: Drama, Independent, Celebrities and Controversy, DIY/Filmmaking, Cinematical Indie
If you're still reeling from Britney Spears' performance at the MTV Video Music Awards last week, it might help to remember that it really was just the latest in a series of headlines calling out young celebrities for making fools of themselves. So, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to make a movie about it. The LA Times reports that independent film producer Joe Nasser is in pre-production on Hollywood Brats, an indie drama based on the so-called 'celebutards'. You might recognize Nasser from his work as the producer behind the somewhat sleazy Anna Nicole Smith biopic. Nasser is basing Brats on what he calls "the public record". Which I would think is no easy task considering the amount of half-baked gossip surrounding these gals.

According to Nasser, Brats will be "...all about these girls in Hollywood getting into trouble...You see them all go to jail, you see them get arrested, you see them go through trials and tribulations". Nasser says that he will use real celebrities in his story, but could not confirm whether it would be the 'unholy quartet' of Britney, Paris, Lindsay, and Nicole. My guess would be that he's waiting to see if anybody sues first. Although, Nasser seems confident that he won't be facing any legal action, saying, "As long as we stick to the truth, we're in good shape." Brats is scheduled to start shooting in Hollywood this October -- and then probably to a discount DVD bin near you. Hmm, unless you're willing to pay 10 bucks for something you get for free on Entetainment Tonight.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lohan's Goin' to Jail!

Hollywood's big wild child, Lindsay Lohan, is going to the slammer. I'm not sure how she's going to make it, spending so many long, arduous hours behind bars, cackled at by fellow inmates. The poor girl is too fragile! Luckily for her, the number of days she has to spend in jail? A whopping one (1). That's right. The drug and alcohol-addicted wild child and repeated lawbreaker is only getting one (1) measly day in jail. Paris Hilton got 23 days for driving on a suspended license, and Lilo gets one (1) day for two offenses in only a few months. Heck, Nicole Richie got 4 for her own DUI. Yet the D.A. says: "She's getting what everyone else would get." Right.

The Hollywood Reporter just shared the details of her plea deal -- beyond the day in jail, she has 10 days of community service, has to complete a drug treatment program (like that helps), 36 months probation, an 18-month alcohol education program, hundreds of dollars in fines (how will she ever afford hundreds of dollars?!) and she has to complete a 3-day county coroner program that includes visiting a morgue (ick) and talking to victims of drunk drivers. Uh... at least she can still star in Poor Things, which producer Rob Hickman is trying to stay positive about.

In a statement released by her publicist, Lohan says: "It is clear to me that my life has become completely unmanageable because I am addicted to alcohol and drugs. I broke the law and today I took responsibility by pleading guilty to the charges in my case." Anyone wanna make bets on whether she came up with that, or is still bs-ing us into thinking she actually made a mistake? Still, I hope for her sake that it sticks this time. This is just getting sad.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Lohan's Latest Director Talks About His Failed Flick

Filed under: Drama, Mystery & Suspense, Sony
And by "failed," I mean box-office-wise, although the filmmaker might disagree with that assessment. My opinion that I Know Who Killed Me is a fairly laughable film is just that: one guy's opinion. (Jette didn't care much for it either, but she's not a guy.) But director Chris Sivertson doesn't seem to be stewing in his juices regarding the box office numbers, his leading lady's tabloid appearances, the scathing reviews or his future projects. And since his previous film (The Lost) debuted at SXSW, festival producer Matt Dentler thought it might be a cool idea to ask Mr. Sivertson a few questions regarding his latest flick's fate.

Here's what Chris had to say about I Know: "Well, what can you do? We try to get well-known people in our movies to get some awareness going and to get attention, and then I guess you can't really complain when the attention takes an unwanted turn. The only thing that bums me out about the entire experience is that it didn't make more money. I don't mind being hated by the critics. It's interesting to see how the press covers it. After the opening weekend, they were happy to proclaim that we had "tanked." Bratz and Hot Rod came out the next weekend and when you look at the amount of screens they were on, they basically had the same box office results we did. But come Monday morning, those films "had difficulty finding an audience in a crowded marketplace." Well, at least they didn't tank! But whatever, you know, press and publicity is so fleeting that it's hard to take seriously whether it's positive or negative. The only thing to do is ignore it and make more movies." (For more between Dentler and Sivertson, click here.)

Well said, Chris. While I was definitely not a fan of your new movie, I'll certainly look forward to what you have coming next. Regarding The Lost, which is an adaptation of the horrific Jack Ketchum novel, it looks like Anchor Bay has come to the rescue. According to the director, AB will deliver the flick in a limited theatrical release (and uncut DVD release) some time in the near-yet-undisclosed future. Regarding I Know Who Killed Me, Sivertson seems more than happy to chalk it up to a learning experience and move on to some more indie-style flicks -- which will undoubtedly play at SXSW whenever they're ready.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Hollywood Producers Weigh In on Lohan's Future

Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy, Newsstand
It seems like a lifetime ago when I actually liked Lindsay Lohan. Of all the teen actresses wading through the cinematic sea, she seemed the most destined for success. LiLo had successful stints in both heavy family fare like Freaky Friday, and teen snarky fare with Mean Girls, but then it all started to crumble. Now, I just feel sorry for her -- sorry that she's troubled enough that she can't even go a few months out of rehab without relapsing, sorry that she has an entourage that seems to have absolutely no motivation to help her or say: "No, Lindsay. You're not going to hop in your car and drive drunk on a suspended license with cocaine in your pocket."

With all of her legal and personal problems, the big question now is whether or not she will have a career after this latest brush with the law, and Variety has chatted with some producers to get their two cents. Poor Things producer Rob Hickman will "continue to be enthusiastic" about the Lohan production, which was supposed to gear up next month. He says: "We expect to announce details on a start date in the very near future." Either he's drowning himself in wobbling optimism, or they must be lining someone else up. I highly doubt Lohan will be ready for more work any time soon, even if Shirley MacLaine visits her in rehab again for more rehearsals.

Another unnamed producer seems to be on the same page as many of us, and is quoted as saying: "A good part of me blames the people around her for not telling her the one thing she needs to hear: 'Go away! Go away for a year,'" which he followed with: "The sad thing is, at one point she had talent." This is too true, although I think it's gotten to the point that she needs more than a year away from the spotlight. Another producer cracked: "Why would she be the one carrying the drugs and driving? That's what an entourage is for." Methinks we haven't seen the final Lohan mistake if she can always get out of rehab and have a group of cohorts itching to party. We'll have to see whether I Know Who Killed Me becomes her final film as she kills her career, or whether Andrew Herwitz is right, in his musing that: "This may, in a strange way, actually help her." What do you think?

Edit: Go to The Reeler to see Lohan as both a Howl-ing poetic figure to pop-culture Beaker.

Read | Permalink | Email this | Comments

Will Lohan's DUI Help Boost Box Office for 'I Know Who Killed Me?'

Filed under: Thrillers, Mystery & Suspense, Celebrities and Controversy, Box Office, Newsstand, Movie Marketing

Or, alternatively, which do you think would make more money at the theater: I Know Who Killed Me or Lindsay Lohan talking to Larry King for an hour? In case you've just woken up and Cinematical is the first thing you're reading today (if so, we're honored -- thanks!), La Lohan was once again arrested in the wee hours of the morning and charged with a number of things, including drunken driving and cocaine possession. Apparently, the cops were called when the mother of Lohan's former personal assistant found her vehicle being chased around a parking lot by Lohan. Just another day in the life, huh Linds? Her arrest comes only a couple days before her latest film, I Know Who Killed Me, is set to hit theaters. Since the marketing campaign for that film has been all but non-existent (has anyone even seen a TV spot?), there's a chance all this free publicity might turn out to be great for a film heading into the weekend with little to no buzz behind it.

Although something similar happened the week before Georgia Rule hit theaters (in that case, video of Lohan snorting coke had surfaced online), it did nothing to bolster that film's box office take. Then again, Georgia Rule wasn't very controversial and/or appetizing -- I guess some would call it a "chick flick." On the other hand, I Know Who Killed Me features Lohan playing a stripper -- it's a thriller -- and those attracted to her bad girl image might be more inclined to check it out after seeing her name splashed across the news all week. Keep in mind, each and every single story that mentions Lohan will, at some point, talk about I Know Who Killed Me. And although TriStar Pictures would never admit it, her getting arrested could be the best thing to happen to a little thriller lost amongst the hustle and bustle of this summer's bigger films. What do you think? Will you be seeing the film this weekend? And will Lohan's latest arrest factor into your decision?

Permalink | Email this | Comments
