If 'Star Wars' Was Made By Environmentalists
Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Fandom », George Lucas », Politics », Trailers and Clips »

It seems like you can't swing an Ewok without hitting some kind of fan-made Star Wars art, toy, or collectible, but have you ever wondered what would have happened if the Rebels had started a grass-roots movement rather than mounting up and chucking an explosive down the thermal exhaust port of the Death Star? Well, Derrick Jensen has and the result is a funny video called If 'Star Wars' Was Made By Environmentalists. In *Jensen's video, the activist and author of A Language Older Than Words takes us through the 'original screenplay' for the sci-fi fantasy classic as it was written by a group of environmentalists ... and Eco-Tours to Endor are only the beginning.
The video takes plenty of jabs at the Left's inability to come to a decision, and the absurdity of trying to stop a murderous force with harsh language and touchy-feely slogans. But keep in mind that Jensen is what you could call a hard-line 'tree-hugger', and his philosophy is based on the idea that civilization is inherently unnatural and based on violence. But don't let that scare you off; there are jokes a-plenty for Star Wars fans, including relegating Luke, Leia, and "some robots" into minor characters and Vader's inability to produce accurate paperwork. But no matter what side of the political spectrum you fall on, the beauty of this particular video is that you don't need to share Jensen's views to find it funny, you just need a healthy appreciation for absurdity.
After the jump: a world where Ewoks sell designer coffee and Luke and Leia are only background...
*CORRECTION: The video was created by Frank Lopez of Submedia
Luke Skywalker Tops Spike's White Trash Hero List
Filed under: Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom », Lists »
Spike TV may not be the default go-to for critical cinematic analysis, but if there is one thing the guy-tailored network knows, it's hicks and hillbillies. And that makes them perfectly qualified to hammer out a list of the Top 10 White Trash Heroes of Cinema, a list that admirably goes looking in the "the trailer parks for succor, refuge, and justice."It's actually a pretty fun list with some great picks on it. I'm particularly fond of Russel Casse from Independence Day, Valentine and Earl from Tremors, and H.I. McDunnough from Raising Arizona, but it's Luke Skywalker at number one that puts a big 'ole smile on my face. And it's hard to argue with Spike's rationale:
- He lives on a patch of dirt in the middle of nowhere.
- He has lots of beat-up vehicles in his front yard.
- He's a greasemonkey.
- He likes to make out with his sister.
- He lives with his aunt and uncle 'cause his dad killed his mom.

Fan Made: Star Wars Does Steampunk and Reservoir Dogs

We've brought you some very cool Steampunk Star Wars action figures in the past, and now comes these equally-as-cool fan made drawings of Star Wars characters over at Gorilla Artfare. Also done up all Steampunk-y, artist Björn Hurri has created a number of images for characters like Chewbacca (pictured above), Yoda (pictured below in gallery), Luke Skywalker (who looks like a cross between a steel worker and a meth addict), Han Solo (if he was 63 and still going strong) and a badass Storm Trooper (who's working a little Predator action into his Steampunk suit). We've included a couple of the images for you to check out below, then head over here to see the rest.
In addition to the Steampunk images, scope out this print of Reservoir Troopers (via Scrawl Collective) -- which is obviously a play off that famous scene from Quentin Tarantino's Reservoir Dogs. Awesome. Must have one. (Unfortunately, they're currently out of stock.)

Mark Hamill to Bring Luke Skywalker Back to the Small Screen!
Filed under: Animation », Comedy », Casting », Deals », Fandom », Newsstand », George Lucas », Comic/Superhero/Geek »
Call it a coincidence or call it fate, but three minutes after finishing my post on that horrific Star Wars trailer, this little nugget showed up in my RSS feeds. According to CNN, Mark Hamill has agreed to resurrect Luke Skywalker for -- wait for it -- a thirty-minute Robot Chicken special on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Not only that, but George Lucas (who, of course, had to give the greenlight) will play himself in the special. Imagine that one! Lucas has lightened up. I love it! Apart from acting, Lucasfilm helped collaborate with Chicken creators Seth Green and Matthew Senreich, going so far as to provide them with sound files on Chewbacca and R2-D2. The special, Robot Chicken: Star Wars, will premiere on Adult Swim this June 17 at 10PM EST.
I've never been a huge fan of Seth Green, but the man earned a ton of respect from me when his Robot Chicken hit the boob tube last year (or was it the year before, I forget?). The show, which utilizes a stop-motion animation technique, is so ridiculously funny that I often find myself laughing so loud, my neighbors are forced to bang on the wall. This entire special came about after Robot Chicken featured a skit called Emperor's Phone Call, in which Darth Vader calls the Emperor to let him know the Death Star has been blown up. When reps from Lucasfilm wanted the sketch for StarWars.com, a meeting was held between Green, Senreich and Lucasfilm, they pitched their ideas and, now, Luke Skywalker is coming back! Now, don't get too excited -- it's not like Hamill will bring back Luke for the upcoming animated Star Wars TV show, but knowing those Chicken boys, I'm sure this one-time appearance will be worth a watch.
