Good News: La Lohan May Leave Acting for Good

Filed under: Comedy », Romance », RumorMonger », Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom »

I'm not one to kick somebody when they're down, and lord knows Miss Lindsay Lohan has been on her way down ... but, well ... in an interview for the April issue of Nylon, the actress dropped hints that she is in need of work and that her recent forays into modeling for Fornarina have inspired her to make a career change. So like any other Lohan-related news item, the gossips were on it like a pack of wolves, and now Page Six has dropped the bomb that the actress could actually have a shot at the world of fashion. According to the wags at Six, Ivan Bart, senior VP of IMG Models, is either desperate for publicity or might actually give her that shot. Bart told Six, "She's a beautiful girl and obviously knows a lot about fashion, providing that she was contractually free, we would take a meeting."

There is no denying that Lohan's celebrity cache has been dropping faster than a pair of Britney's underwear since her stints in court and various rehabs. During 2008, we watched her lose out on potential career-saving roles, and her latest attempt to win back the 'chick flick crowd' has already been voted most likely to end up in the direct-to-DVD pile. Mainly, the press has been far more interested in her personal relationships than her plans to put her career back together -- and who could blame them? There were cryptic messages on Twitter and public spats; it was the stuff of tabloid dreams. So starlets take note: when you're being called the 'next big thing' and everybody loves you, take a moment to ponder the career trajectory of La Lohan and keep in mind that this could be you.

Male Model Marcus Schenkenberg Books Role in 'Terminator 4?'

Either it's just another way to drum up interest in someone no one is really talking about, or Marcus Schenkenberg (most folks will remember him as that hottie male model in VH1's The Surreal Life) has just landed a role in Terminator 4. Coming Soon tells us that Schenkenberg was interviewed on the Dutch talk show Jensen! where he informed his legions of fans that he just returned from the Cannes Film Festival where he booked not one, but four new movie roles. Four! The only role we really care about (and the one that the CS scooper mentions) is this so-called part in Terminator 4. Although he did not say who he'll be playing (a sexy robot? a sexy rebel?), the actual interview (in Dutch?) will be available online next week; check back here for all the tasty nuggets of Schenkenberg info.

Another interesting tidbit was that Schenkenberg apparently told Jensen! that Arnold Schwarzenegger will have a 30-second cameo in the sequel. Now, Ahnold has said on numerous occasions that he will have nothing to do with any future Terminator installments, however recent rumors left open the possibility that the Governator could allow filmmakers to use his image in some sort of digitally-created "Look, it's Arnold's face with dialogue from T2!" type of scene. When we last reported on those rumors, it seemed as if Arnold had given the greenlight for that. Yet, later in the day, Cinematical received an email that said all of it was nonsense; that Arnold had not approved of anything like that. So, what are we left with? Nada, really ... unless you're a huge fan of Marcus Schenkenberg. Personally, I cannot see a fourth installment hitting theaters without at least a picture of Arnold as The Terminator appearing at some point during the action. Whether we see more than a picture is up to the man himself; Cinematical will let you know as soon as we hear more.

Disney Women: Hot or Not?

Filed under: Animation », Classics », Disney », Movie Marketing »

Okay, so it might be a bit creepy for an adult to admit that an animated character is hot, but come on, Jessica Rabbit wasn't really bad, she was just drawn that way, right? Animated characters have been sexualized since the early days of the genre because sex sold just as well back then as it does today. It's pretty evident when you check out all of Disney's animated leading ladies that they've been drawn to look appealing to the eye, going back as far as Snow White and Tinkerbell. (An interesting side note here, according to this interview with Margaret Kerry, who was the character model for Tinkerbell, she claims that her real name is Tinker Bell, two words, although Disney officially has it as one. Her interview is pretty fascinating, check it out.)

The Being a Man Spo
t over at fanpop has a list of Disney's top ten hottest women, and there are no real surprises on the list. What's notable are the omissions like Jessie from Toy Story 2 who was both sassy and smart, and Daisy Duck, who sort of falls into the creepy Wayne's World category of Bugs Bunny in a dress being attractive. Daisy had a fair amount of sass as well, and she didn't take Donald's nonsense either. That has to count for something, because she definitely wore the pants in that pants-less relationship.

The real question is, what effect does the traditional Disney female image have on young kids? Not everyone is a fan of the oversexed and vivacious look that runs rampant in the Disney-verse, arguing that it gives little girls an image to live up to that is far from what a normal person looks like, and that is sets a very limiting stereotype of what a heroine can look like. Barbie has faced the same sort of criticisms, especially during the whole "Math is hard!" fiasco, yet both Barbie and the Disney women are still created to look like pinup girls.

Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? What do you think, Cinemites?

[Thanks, Marsha]

That Man: Peter Berlin screening in NYC

Filed under: Documentary », Gay & Lesbian », NSFW »

It takes a special kind of man to have his penis compared to Jane Mansfield's breasts, but that's how John Waters describes gay icon Peter Berlin in a clip from That Man: Peter Berlin, which opens today in New York City. Berlin, a pornstar who spent the 60s, 70s, and 80s starring in porn films, modeling, and getting photographed by the likes of Warhol and Mapplethorpe, was the inspiration for Owen Wilson's character in Zoolander. The "legend," now 63, also created his own clothing to accent some of his body's more "impressive" features. I understand why he would want to flaunt it, but at the same time I think I'd feel uncomfortable being too exposed. I imagine some scenario where I'm suddenly being chased by a moose and have to leap a barbed wire fence to save myself. I'm just saying I'd like to be better protected in that instance. That probably doesn't happen in NYC very often, but still, one has to be cautious. Berlin's next project, he claims, will involve numerous video tapes he's created of himself having sex. Also, tapes of himself watching himself have sex on tape. He has lots of sex, I think that's what we're supposed to derive from this.
