If there is one thing that can strike fear in the hearts of moviegoers everywhere, it's the term "model-turned-actress". I mean, has anyone seen Fair Game? Truly scary. Vogue UK is now reporting that runway bad-girl Naomi Campbell has signed on for a role in Spike Lee's new film about African-American serviceman during WWII. The film was adapted from James McBride's novel Miracle at St. Anna, and first gained ink when Lee had made some controversial comments to the press while scouting locations in Italy back in July. Lee told reporters, "If you look at the history of Hollywood, the black soldiers who fought WWII are totally invisible," -- although, he is hardly the first to notice the oversight.

Campbell has worked with Lee once before, when she had a small role in his phone-sex worker flick Girl 6 -- and since I'm in the small minority who enjoyed the film, I can say with certainty that acting was definitely not her strong point. But, Campbell has racked up a few small roles and cameos over the years. According to Vogue (via Campbell): "It's a very very small role but it involves subject matter that I'm really passionate about...I'll do anything for Spike and I really think we should be more educated about the role of people of colour in our history". So, it looks like it's strictly the sidelines for the untried actress. Campbell did tell Vogue, however, that there will be some announcements about the film soon and that it could be out in theaters as early as next year. One thing is for sure -- if she gets a little upset while on the set, someone might want to tell her assistants to duck.

Fans of Garden State will be happy to know that Zach Braff has finally stepped behind the camera once again, except it's not for his follow-up feature film. Nope, according to Vulture, Braff is directing a Dunkin' Donuts commercial starring none other than the ultra volatile "please don't hit me with anything" supermodel Naomi Campbell. I cannot think of a stranger scenario -- here we have the super quirky Braff helming a commercial for a store known for their greasy donuts ... and it stars a supermodel! Has Campbell ever eaten a donut in her life (using them as weapons to attack random assistants does not count)? Braff, on the other hand, is apparently a big fan of the chain. While out doing press for The Last Kiss, he was asked what he liked most about Boston. His answer? "I have never seen a city that has more Dunkin' Donuts on every corner. I love Dunkin' Donuts, and I'm not doing an advertisement, but there's nothing like a nice donut." So there you have it -- the dude digs donuts.

While reps for Braff, Campbell and Dunkin' Donuts wouldn't confirm this to be true, filming reportedly took place yesterday back on Braff's home turf in Orange, New Jersey. And after doing some more digging, I uncovered the plot (if you want to call it that) of said commercial. Holy Moly tells us that Campbell is filmed "gardening while wearing an evening gown," (makes sense, right) and when a neighbor annoys her, she throws her shoe through their window. (Get it? Because Campbell throws things and needs money to pay off those who are suing her -- hence, embarrassing herself with this crummy commercial?) What does this all have to do with Dunkin' Donuts? Well, there's another woman who watches the whole thing and "keeps cool" by drinking some sort of iced coffee. Don't you see her? She's wayyy in the back corner. No, behind the production assistant. In the blue jeans. Yes, the one holding a sign that reads "Garden State Was Overrated!"

No word yet on the status of Braff's film Open Hearts (a remake of Susanne Bier's 2002 Danish film), but perhaps the guy signed on to this gig in order to get used to directing again. That would be the most logical excuse. Then again, maybe it's the only job he can find. Time to make the donuts another film, Zach -- whaddya think?

Italian tire-maker Pirelli must have a whole lot of money and very little space in which to store it, or something, because obscene salaries are the only possible explanation for John Malkovich and Antoine Fuqua's collaboration on the hideously bad, tire-selling short, The Call. In the film, Malkovich plays a priest who is called to perform an exorcism on ... a car. Which, obviously, is possessed by Naomi Campbell, who has black wings and appears to have scaled up her weapon choice rather dramatically from the cell phone she was (allegedly) wielding last week. While I will confess to chuckling when Evil Naomi rid the car of Malkovich's holy water by turning on the windshield wipers, the revelation that all she really wanted was better tires is so silly that it's not even worth mocking.

But, you know, far be it for me to judge if the thing sells tires or not. Maybe if I had a car, I'd suddenly be desperate to buy something from Pirelli. Because, really, who doesn't need tires that ward off evil?
