'The Dark Knight' Update: New Pics, Lots More Promotional Madness

Filed under: Action », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

I absolutely love this new still photo from The Dark Knight (seen above, courtesy of Comics2Film). Doesn't look like a shot from the film, but look closer and check out the mask in that guy's hand. From what I know about the film, I assume that's Heath Ledger in the picture either before or after he robs a bank in Gotham City as The Joker. And I assume that shot is part of a scene which is also part of the new IMAX footage (which will screen before IMAX prints of I Am Legend). Of course I'm not positive because I skipped an invite to attend a screening of the new IMAX footage last week. As part of the insane Dark Knight promotional nonsense, I was sent a Fed Ex package with a Gotham Times newspaper, a Gotham Times press pass and a note with instructions to show up at a certain IMAX theater in NYC. Since my fat ass was too lazy to travel all the way into the city for seven minutes of footage, I bailed on the invite. Sorry folks.

But when I was trolling around online, I saw that I had received the abbreviated press package. Perez Hilton (of all people) was actually sent a cake -- a real cake -- and was asked to call a phone number. When he did, a phone inside the actual cake started ringing. And so he had to dig through the cake, uncovering a package buried deep in the middle. That package contained an actual cell phone (I swear, I'm not kidding about this sh*t), and he was asked to call yet another number which gave him instructions on a place to go. I believe that place was a location in Los Angeles where they were also screening the IMAX footage. A f**king cake with a cell phone inside it! I'm still laughing about this. And if you can somehow suffer through Hilton's awful shtick, you can watch video of the entire thing over here.

Additionally, a couple more photos from the film were just released. After the jump, you can check out a pic of Batman riding his BatPod (via Slashfilm), as well as a pic of Batman on the cover of Cinelive magazine.

Uni Sues Blogger Perez Hilton Over Topless Aniston Pic

Filed under: Universal », Celebrities and Controversy », Fandom », Newsstand », Images »

If there's one thing we've learned over the past two years, it's that Jennifer Aniston does not want anyone to see her topless. And, if somehow a picture of her topless should pop up (or out), there's a good chance someone is being sued. Back in 2005, Aniston won a suit against a celebrity photographer who snapped pics of her sunbathing topless on her deck. Now, the infamous celebrity blogger Perez Hilton has come under fire for posting a stolen topless photo of Aniston from a scene that was not included in The Break-Up. (I take it said scene is also not available as one of the deleted scenes on the DVD. Too bad ... I'm sure it was pivotal to the plot.)

This time, it is not Aniston who is going after the blogger; instead, the big boys are coming to bat -- Universal City Studios Productions LLLP is suing Perez Hilton (or Mario Lavandeira) for posting "all or parts of the stolen footage from the motion picture on his Web site," claiming copyright infringement. Not only that, but Universal wants the U.S Marshall to take the picture back, they demand a jury trial (so that MSNBC can cover the thing non-stop) and they want monetary damages ... because -- I don't know -- Perez happened to draw a lot more attention toward the film, and, subsequently, I'm sure a slew of folks rented the flick for whatever perverted personal reasons they might have had.

But is Universal going a little too far with this? Is this a "statement" lawsuit, sending out word to bloggers everywhere that leaked (or stolen) film stills will carry a hefty price for those who publish them online? How is this different from any other stills leaking out, and the studio simply asking that they be taken down? Jury trial? Monetary damages? U.S. Marshall? Is it just me, or is someone really out to get Perez Hilton?

Dear Publicists ... love, Cinematical

Found this quote from Leslie Sloane-Zelnick, Lindsay Lohan's publicist, on Perez Hilton:

"The problem with the celebrity blogs is that the traditional outlets are using them as legitimate sources, even though the people who are writing them could be some kid in Arkansas. I mean who are these bloggers? I've never even known how to get in touch with any of them."

Well, Cinematical isn't really a *celebrity* blog, per se, but on the very, very slim chance that Ms. Sloane-Zelnick or one of her contemporaries has actually *tried* to get in touch with us and failed, I want to take a minute to clear up any confusion:

First, I'm the only child prodigy on this train, and rumors of my infancy have been greatly exaggerated. Second, we would never hire a kid from Arkansas without immediately getting 'em a fake ID and shipping them the hell out of that flyover state. And lastly, if you'd like to get in touch with us about one of our posts, one of your projects, or just about anything, you can use this form or, if you want to personally contact the wunderkind in charge (that's me), my email address is karina AT cinematical DOT com.

And Leslie, if you're reading this: tell Lindsay that I think Ryan Adams is sexy, too, but I'm worried that he might not be the best thing for her career – and I can make a flow chart out of Parker Posey's IMDB profile, if she needs further proof.
