First Pics of De Niro and Pacino from 'Righteous Kill' Arrive Online!

Filed under: Drama », Thrillers », Fandom », Images »

Actors Robert Deniro (L) and Al Pacino arrive at the Tribeca Film Festival screening of 'An Evening of Chinese Coffee and Conversation' May 8, 2003 in New York City. (Photo by Lawrence Lucier/Getty Images)Is it bad that part of me doesn't care whether Righteous Kill turns out to be the crummiest, most overly-hyped piece of garbage this side of the equator? Is it wrong for me to say that I'll probably enjoy it for the simple fact that Robert De Niro and Al Pacino will finally -- after all these years -- be able to share some quality screen time? And is it horrific of me to believe that these two guys could play hop-scotch for an hour and a half, and I'd still leave the theater with a smile on my face? Probably not, since I have a feeling a lot of you are in the same boat as I. I think. Yup, thanks to some dude named Sean Henri, we get a first look at De Niro and Pacino together on the set of Righteous Kill. As of now, Henri only has two pics up on his blog (although he does promise more), in which both De Niro and Pacino can be seen walking up to what appears to be an apartment door, as well as one showing them standing in front of a Tow Away Zone sign (which is the pic you see to the right of your screen -- click on it for a larger version, courtesy of Sean Henri).

Directed by Jon Avnet (who helmed the still-unreleased Pacino flick 88 Minutes), and written by Inside Man scribe Russell Gerwitz, Righteous Kill follows two veteran detectives (De Niro, Pacino) who team up to track down a serial killer. The film also stars John Leguizamo, 50 Cent, Donnie Wahlberg, Brian Dennehy and the very adorable Carla Gugino (who I just happen to have a major crush on). Martin Scorsese is also rumored to have a cameo in the film as Lt. Winnfield, although nothing official was ever announced. But it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he showed up for a brief scene just to have the opportunity to square off in a room against his old pal and a guy who, surprisingly, has never starred in one of his films. Go figure there, huh? Anyway, enjoy the pics and look out for Righteous Kill to hit theaters sometime next year.

New Pics of Anna Faris as a Playboy Bunny

Filed under: Comedy », Fandom », Images »

We've been hearing a lot about Anna Faris' new project, in which she plays an ex-Playboy Bunny who moves into the lamest sorority house on campus and tries to transform a group of ducks into swans. I'm not sure if we've mentioned the title yet (because it went untitled through a ton of casting reports), but it's called House Bunny -- and it stars Faris, Dana Goodman, Emma Stone, Kat Dennings, Katharine McPhee (yes, Idol runner-up), Rumer Willis, Sarah Wright and Colin Hanks. Well Coming Soon managed to get a hold of some tasty images that show Faris dressed up in a pink bikini top with "boy shorts" (is that what they're called?) underneath.

She appears to be standing on top of a station wagon, holding a hose, with bubbles falling down. My favorite aspect of the pics is that there are these two guys in the background -- just staring at her -- as if to say, "What do you want from us -- this is our job." And I like how they both have sunglasses on so that no one can see them staring at her ... um, fanny. I imagine this is either some sort of dream sequence, or Anna's character is hosting one of those sorority-related car washes. Either way, these photos will most certainly show up in the dreams of lots of guys later on. For those just dying to get more Faris, the gal is currently appearing on HBO's Entourage as herself, although I'm not sure how many episodes she signed on to do. House Bunny is set to arrive in theaters sometime next year.

Jessica Alba's 'The Eye' -- First Photos

Filed under: Horror », Thrillers », Mystery & Suspense », Movie Marketing », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

The first two photos from The Eye have hit Bloody Disgusting, and the first thought that popped into my head was: "Why is Jessica Alba so angry at her oven?" Yup, that's the beautiful Alba to the right of your screen (click on the pic for a larger version), and as you can see the cupcakes clearly aren't f**king done yet! When we last checked in on The Eye, Cinematical's Kevin Kelly was visiting the set; watching all those production people dress up a scene that was to be shot in the rain. Said scene was also the first shot of Alba's character in the film, and so lots and lots of work was going into making the thing sail.

The Eye has been around for quite some time now. First off, it's a remake of the 2002 film directed by the Pang Bros., and I know that this American version has been in the works for a few years. I remember watching about 40 minutes of the original and not liking it for some reason. Perhaps it just hit me at the wrong time (as some films often do), but I've always loved the story. Essentially, Alba plays a blind violinist who gets a cornea transplant that allows her to see for the first time since childhood. However, when she begins to experience visions of death dragging souls of of this world and into the next -- not only does it drive her crazy -- but she also looks to find out who owned the eyes originally. It's definitely one of Alba's most ambitious roles, and it will be nice to see her in a film where her outstanding figure is not the main focus. Not that there's anything wrong with Alba and/or her figure, but I'd like to see the girl show a little bit more range, instead of ass. I believe she has it in her; she just needs the right material. French helmers David Moreau and Xavier Palud are directing the remake off the original 2002 screenplay and a new one penned by a bunch of different people, with Sebastian Gutierrez (Snakes on a Plane) getting top billing. February 1, 2008 is when they're dropping this one. Watch out for it.

New Pics from Will Smith's 'Hancock' Arrive Online

Wanna see a bunch of pics featuring Will Smith hanging by a few wires? PopSugar now has a mini gallery of behind-the-scenes photos from the set of Smith's new film John Hancock (or is it just Hancock?). No, it's not a biopic on the first man to sign the Declaration of Independence -- instead, it's another one of them superhero flicks with a twist. In the film, which was previously titled Tonight, He Comes (wonder why that was changed???), Smith plays a down-and-out superhero who isn't feeling much love from the public anymore. He soon finds himself involved in a questionable relationship with the wife (Charlize Theron) of a PR guy (Jason Bateman) who's trying to repair his image.

Hancock is being helmed by Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights); apparently the fourth choice in a line of directors who were previously attached, then bailed. That list includes Michael Mann, Jonathan Mostow and Gabriele Muccino. Back in May, Latino Review posted another one of their craptastic script reviews for Hancock, spoiling the heck out of the thing, while giving it a C+. In it, they also gripe that putting Smith in a corny superhero suit could ruin things as his character is more of an everyman than a, say, Iron Man. Well, these latest photos definitely show Smith in some sort of suit (looks like black leather with one long stripe across the chest), but it's definitely not in your face. As far as I know, Hancock will not be present at this week's ComicCon, so we'll have to wait awhile for more. As of now, the film is set to arrive in theaters on July 2, 2008.

Downey Jr. Tests Armor in New 'Iron Man' Pic

Filed under: Action », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Images », ComicCon »

In an article previewing the upcoming ComicCon slate, Entertainment Weekly provides a brand new photo of Robert Downey Jr. testing out his super cool glove (or gauntlet, as I believe it's referred to) in the upcoming Iron Man flick. Downey Jr. will be in attendance this year at San Diego ComicCon, along with Iron Man director Jon Favreau. And seeing how Favreau has been reaching out to fans throughout the film's production, I wouldn't be surprised if the Iron Man panel is one of the most enjoyable parts of the geeked-up weekend. Look for more stills to be released, as well as (we hope) a possible teaser trailer.

Another pretty cool Iron Man-related piece of entertainment I scoped out earlier today was a video Downey Jr. and Favreau made just after filming was complete. Some of you might be aware that Favreau used to host a show called Dinner for Five on the IFC Channel awhile back. In it, Favreau would sit down for a very informal talk (over dinner in a different Los Angeles restaurant each week) with a table full of actors, actresses and filmmakers. If you haven't yet checked out the show, all four seasons are now available on DVD. And that's where this new Iron Man talk comes into play. As part of the promotional material behind that Dinner for Five DVD, Favreau sat down and filmed a Dinner for Two (minus the dinner) with Downey Jr. The video can be found on the DVD's Amazon page, and in it the two discuss filming Iron Man, as well as some of Downey Jr.'s other classic roles. Surprisingly, the actor lists Weird Science as being one of his top three roles, along with Chaplin and, of course, Iron Man. He also tells a pretty funny Rodney Dangerfield story too. So check out the pic, check out the EW article and check out the video. Look for Cinematical's coverage of this year's San Diego ComicCon to invade your computer screen beginning next week.

Get a Load of the First Tom Cruise Photo from 'Valkyrie'

Filed under: Drama », United Artists », Fandom », Movie Marketing », Images »

We're calling this one Pirates of the Caribbean: The Germans Are Coming! No, Tom Cruise is not replacing Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow; this is a pic of the actor -- as German officer Col. Claus von Stauffenberg -- from Bryan Singer's upcoming drama Valkyrie. RopesofSilicon bring us this first look, and they also have up a fairly interesting comparison shot of the real Stauffenberg and Cruise. To say these guys looked similar would be an understatement -- is there something about Tommy boy we don't know? In the film -- which is based on real-life events, Cruise plays a German officer who led the daring July 20 plot to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944. This is a weird role for Cruise, and I'm curious to see if he throws on one of them English-German accents for the film. Also starring Patrick Wilson, Bill Nighy, Kenneth Branagh, Tom Wilkinson, Eddie Izzard and the very beautiful (as well as potential future Bond girl) Carice van Houten, Valkyrie is currently scoping out August 8, 2008 as a possible release date. So whaddya think -- would you bring this guy home to mom?

New Batch of 'Bourne' Pics

Filed under: Action », Mystery & Suspense », Movie Marketing », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

Just when you thought summer was beginning to wind down, remember that there's still at least one more big-budgeted action-packed threequel gearing up to invade theaters in a couple weeks. The Bourne Ultimatum arrives on August 3, and Cinema Blend has a pretty nifty gallery of stills for you to sift through. Check out Matt Damon as he reads a book, uses a laptop, rides a motorcycle, inspects a slide thingy and, of course, runs ... fast. Fellow cast members Julia Stiles, David Strathairn, Paddy Considine and Joan Allen also show up in a few shots, as the search for Jason Bourne intensifies when the man decides to return home and wag his presence in the face of those seeking him out.

Recently, Damon has gone on record saying that this will mark the last time he reprises his role as Jason Bourne, leading lots to assume that this franchise will stop at three films. Of course there's always a chance someone will change their mind and greenlight a fourth adventure, although they'll have to find someone alluring enough to fill Damon's shoes. Those interested in learning more about the film are more than welcome to check out some additional trailers and posters -- other than that, there's not much I can do for you. Will director Paul Greengrass produce a film that's on par (or even better) than the previous installment? Will Julia Stiles find a way to keep us awake this time while she delivers her lines? Will Jason Bourne finally learn his real identity -- that he's not actually an ex-CIA operative, but an ex-Burger King employee who watched way too many action films growing up? So many questions left unanswered; how will they wrap it up?

'Dark Knight' Update: New Joker Pics, Eckhart Confirms Two Face Will Make an Appearance

Filed under: Action », RumorMonger », Fandom », DIY/Filmmaking », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

I wonder if we'll ultimately spend more time this summer talking about The Dark Knight than we will next summer when the film actually comes out? Ryan already alerted us to the rumor that the Batman sequel will unveil a teaser in front of The Simpsons Movie on July 27, as well as at San Diego ComicCon on the same day. Hopefully that also means one will hit the online, because I won't be at ComicCon, nor will I be seeing The Simpsons in theaters (I'm reviewing it, so I'll check it out at one of them advanced screenings that don't show previews). So that was yesterday. Today, we have new pics of Heath Ledger as The Joker, courtesy of The Dark Knight's Unofficial Movie Blog. It's probably important to point out that I'm not positive this is Ledger (it could be a stunt double), but there's no question it's Joker. Additionally, the site also provides video of Joker's truck.

Aside from these Joker pics, folks from just about every movie news site have been attempting to hit up Aaron Eckhart for more Two Face info while the dude has been out promoting his latest flick, No Reservations. Although he's been doing his best to keep quiet, MTV Movie News managed to obtain confirmation from Eckhart that he will be donning the Two Face costume at some point during The Dark Knight. He says, "I play Harvey Dent. Harvey Two-Face. They are both in the movie." He wouldn't go much further than that, but he did say he was looking forward to shooting a specific scene this October. As to what that scene entails, Eckhart coyly answered: "I don't know. There might be anger involved. There might be tears. It might be a cathartic day. It might be a lot of love." Man, July 27 can't come soon enough -- I'm dying to see some actual footage by now. The Dark Knight hits theaters July 18, 2008.

Movie Pics: 'The Night Watchman,' 'The Dark Knight,' 'Cloverfield,' and Woody's 'Midnight in Barcelona'

A bunch of movie photos have recently hit the net, and thankfully none of them feature Woody Allen in a speedo. Check it out ...

  • JustJared has our first look at Keanu Reeves, Forest Whitaker and Prison Break's Amaury Nolasco on the set of The Night Watchman. There's a gallery of about 20 or so shots; all of which feature the men attending the funeral of a fallen officer. In the film (written and directed by David Ayer), Reeves plays a veteran cop (and recent widower) who's implicated in the execution of a fellow officer. He then must go up against the system he's called home for so many years in an attempt to clear his name. The scene in question must be the funeral of said officer, which (contrary to what I originally thought) will not be played by Nolasco.
  • The Dark Knight is still shooting in Chicago, and Superhero Hype has obtained a group of photos which show Gary Oldman as Lt. Jim Gordon. Director Christopher Nolan can also be seen, as well as shots of a few Gotham police vehicles and a man dressed up in a SWAT uniform. I'm not sure if this scene has to do with the aforementioned bank heist, but, if so, it looks like it's going to be one heckuva robbery.
  • A third photo has been released to the mysterious Cloverfield website, 1-18-08.com. This one is a bit fuzzy, and is timestamped 12:48a. In it, a few people walk through what looks like a cloud of smoke while holding their noses. If they didn't specifically tell us the time, I'd say J.J. Abrams was producing a 9/11-related film. You can also toss the photos around the page with your mouse -- not sure what that's about, but have fun.
  • Finally, Woody Allen is spending his summer in Barcelona with his muse Scarlett Johansson. A few photos have arrived that show Woody, Johansson and a bunch of crew members hanging around the set of Midnight in Barcelona. From what we've heard, the film is a comedy (set in Barcelona) that revolves around a love triangle of sorts. Knowing Woody, he's writing the script as he shoots. The film also stars Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Patricia Clarkson.

First Photos from Neil Marshall's 'Doomsday'

Filed under: Action », Thrillers », Fandom », Focus Features », Movie Marketing », Images »

Focus Features/Rogue Pictures has just sent Cinematical two images from Neil Marshall's Doomsday; an upcoming action-thriller from the guy who brought us the well-received horror flick The Descent. Although I never saw The Descent, our own Kim Voynar loved the film when it was released last summer and Stephen King even placed it on his top ten list of 2006. Thus, I imagine lots of folks are eagerly anticipating Marshall's follow-up film, which looks to mix a little bit of 28 Days Later with Children of Men. And that can't be bad, right?

Here's the plot synopsis we were provided with: "In the action-packed new thriller from writer/director Neil Marshall ("The Descent"), authorities brutally quarantine a country as it succumbs to fear and chaos when a virus strikes. The literal walling-off works for three decades – until the dreaded Reaper virus violently resurfaces in a major city. An elite group of specialists, captained by Eden Sinclair (Rhona Mitra), is urgently dispatched into the still-quarantined country to retrieve a cure by any means necessary. Shut off from the rest of the world, the unit must battle through a landscape that has become a waking nightmare." Aside from Mitra, pic also stars Malcolm McDowell, Bob Hoskins, Nora-Jane Noone and Alexander Siddig. I've also included a pic of Marshall on set after the jump. Currently, there's no official release date, but look for Doomsday to attack theaters early next year.
