'Name That Movie' ... Based on These Drawings
Filed under: Fandom », Quentin Tarantino », Fan Made »
Most of us know our favorite movies by heart, and we can quote dialog (although not always accurately), describe a scene down to its last detail, or even recount production history if we are particularly geek-minded about it. When movies are a big part of your life, the attention to detail can become downright obsessive, but as we all know, a movie is really just a sum of its parts. Paul Rogers, an illustrator who works at the California Art Center College has taken those separate parts and devised a clever little game of Name that Movie on his blog, Drawger. Rogers' game takes some of our favorite flicks and breaks them down into six drawings, and covers the gamut of Hollywood classics old and new. So if you are a fan of Pictionary and showing off your movie knowledge, this is definitely the game for you.Now I don't want to brag, but I did manage to guess most of Rogers' selections -- although I am honest enough to admit that I didn't get a perfect score. There were a few that, frankly, I wouldn't even know where to begin. But it did remind me how those iconic images can work their way into your brain, and when all you need to see is an ink drawing of Big Kahuna soda cup and you can almost hear Samuel L. Jackson exclaim "That is a tasty burger."
How Well Do You Remember 2006?
Right now, The Guardian has a neat little thirty-question quiz up called 2006: The year in film. How well do you remember everything (film-related) that happened this year? And when I say everything, I mean even the tiniest details -- like quotes from actors, marketing mishaps and deaths. That's right, The Guardian has assembled a unique list of multiple choice questions that are, at best, extremely random.
Personally, I found the quiz to be rather easy, but then again I write for a movie blog -- I should know these things, right? However, I was surprised to only score 28 out of 30. Yes, even I'm not perfect. They got me with one death question (pick the actor who died in 2005, not 2006), as well as on a question about a marketing mishap that occurred during Lucky Number Slevin's promotional campaign. Now, if you're a faithful Cinematical reader, then you should be able to answer most (if not all) of the questions correctly, seeing as we've covered each topic at least once. Have fun, and definitely come back after you've finished to let us know your score.
Bonus Cinematical question not included in The Guardian's quiz: Which film did Erik predict would gross the most money at the box office this past summer? And was he right?

How Much Do You Love Office Space?
If you've ever been jammed in a cubicle, stuck working for some corporate giant where casual Fridays and the occasional birthday cake are all you have to pass the time, then there's a good chance Office Space is among your favorite films. At my previous job, we used to have a guy who would walk around constantly quoting lines from the film -- a self-appointed Office Space guru.
"Hey Erik, do you have a case of the Mondays?" He would ask, like clock-work, every Monday morning. When Friday rolled around, after pointing out how our company did not allow Hawaiian shirts to be worn in the office, he would usually turn to me and go, "Um, yeah, Erik ... I'm going to have to ask you to come in on Saturday." Long story short: They never could find where I buried the body. Surfing around online today, I came across this neat little Office Space quiz for those of you who, like my co-worker, live and breathe the Mike Judge film. Think you're an Office Space master? Think you have every square-inch of the flick memorized? Well, think again -- this quiz is tough.
Here's a sample question: "What were the letters on the license plate of the Mitsubishi Mirage that was in front of Peter while he was driving to work in the beginning of the movie?" Exactly. Let's see how well you do. After answering all 100 questions (Yes, the freaking thing has 100 questions!), I scored 64%. Anyone think they can beat me?

Think you know Disney?
Bloody hell! I've always considered myself a fan of animation so I'm a tad bothered by the fact that I only got 9 out of 10 on The Guardian's fun little Disney movie quiz (click that "Read" link below). Okay, I guess 9 out of 10 is pretty good, but now my ability to impress people with a daily cavalcade of utterly useless information has been called into question. I'd like to see how others fare, so leave your scores in the comments.
