Razzie Awards Honor The Worst of the Year
Filed under: Awards », Fandom »
While Oscar was planning to hand out golden statues to the best films of the year, the 29th Annual Golden Rasberry (Razzie) Awards were being handed out to the year's worst. The big winner (or loser) this year was The Love Guru, which not only took home Worst Picture, but Worst Actor (for Mike Myers) and Worst Screenplay (Mike Myers and Graham Gordy). The Hottie and The Nottie nabbed two Razzies, with star Paris Hilton taking home honors in the Worst Actress category (for Hottie and the Nottie), as well as Worst Supporting Actress (in Repo: The Genetic Opera). Ms. Hilton also shared the spotlight with Christine Lakin or Joel David Moore for Worst Screen Couple.Indiana Jones' return to the big screen garnered a whole bunch of negative reactions, and the film did little to impress the Razzie voters since Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull won the award for Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-off or Sequel. Wow, there's a lot of room in that sucker ... and it went to Indy? Let's just say Sarah Michelle Gellar and Jessica Alba both got away with one there. Rounding things out, Uwe Boll won for Worst Director and Worst Career Achievement, with the tagline "Germany's Answer to Ed Wood".
Check out the entire list over here, then let us know what you think they got right or wrong. Was The Love Guru really the worst picture of the year? Did Indy deserve worst sequel/remake/prequel status?
Starz Promotes Badness of 'I Know Who Killed Me'
Filed under: Drama », Thrillers », Sony », Home Entertainment », Movie Marketing »
While I've neither seen Showgirls nor I Know Who Killed Me, I imagine the latter of the two stripper movies is not destined to be the same sort of camp classic as is the former. From what I gathered from the reviews and audience response, IKWKM is just plain bad -- not funny bad or entertaining bad or any other kind of bad that would be of interest to viewers of any kind. Nevertheless, the cable channel Starz is promoting its pay TV premiere of the Lindsay Lohan movie as something of a not-to-be-missed phenomenon of trash. The ad, viewable in full over at Defamer, celebrates the movie's eight Razzie Award wins, particularly its esteem of being named Worst Picture and having Lohan named Worst Actress (Twice). Also included are quotes from negative reviews from Variety, eFilmCritic, Flick Filosopher, Quad City Times and the New York Daily News. Of course, the blurbs kind of say that IKWKM needs to be seen to be believed, which makes it sound like the movie is indeed entertaining bad. The eFilmCritic review (from Peter Sobczynski) even flat out claims the movie may be entertaining under the right circumstances.
Two things the ad misses, though, are the fact that the movie's eight Razzies was a record amount and the Rotten Tomatoes score of 8%. The former would aid in its cult-hopeful celebration, while the latter would put those reviews in more honest context. Also, as Stu at Defamer brilliantly points out, considering all of Starz Entertainment's many channels, the movie would be better suited for a new channel to be called "Flopz."
I Know Who Killed Me airs on Starz this Saturday, June 14, at 9pm.
Razzie awards announced

The "winners" have been announced for the 26th
annual Razzie awards and, for once, I'm happy to say I haven't seen any of the horrible films mentioned. For those not
aware, the Razzies (or Golden Raspberry's) are handed out the day before the Oscars each year and honor the worst of
what Hollywood shoveled down our throats. With so many bad films to choose from, it always surprises me how, come
Razzie time, it's usually pretty clear who deserves what.
This year, Jenny McCarthy's Dirty Love took home the Razzie for Worst Picture, while also scooping up the awards for Worst Actress (McCarthy), Worst Screenplay (McCarthy) and Worst Director (John Asher). After Asher won his award, Uwe Boll took a deep sigh of relief, if only because it grants him one more year full of directing high-priced crap. If there ever was an award for the D-list Celebrity That Should Have Disappeared Ten Years Ago, then I assume McCarthy would have picked that one up as well. Oh well, maybe next year.
In the Worst Actor category, Rob Schneider grabbed the Razzie for his performance in Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo. This one seems about right since I'd rather get a root canal than watch Schneider in anything. Hayden Christensen won Worst Supporting Actor for his crappy Darth Vader impression and Paris Hilton took Worst Supporting Actress for House of Wax. The way I see it, if Paris keeps making movies, she'll keep winning this award. Finally, in the brand new category, Most Tiresome Tabloid Targets, our friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes beat out Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie for the couple we wish would just vanish off the face of the earth right about now. Hurray for that! For a complete list of the "winners", click on the read link below.
Razzie noms revealed: vote early, vote often

Getting the jump on the Oscars by about 24 hours,
the Razzie nominations were announced this morning The best thing about the Razzies (which, naturally, will be handed out the day before the Oscars) is that we, the huddle masses, get to decide who wins! All it takes is $15 to become a voting-only member of the The Golden Raspberry Award Foundation - and, really, isn't that a small price to pay to hate on Tom Cruise in an official capacity? Love Tom? Well, what about Jenny McCarthy? See? It's pretty damn tempting.
