George Clooney Drops Out of 'White Jazz'
Filed under: Drama », Thrillers », Casting », Mystery & Suspense », Warner Independent Pictures », Celebrities and Controversy », George Clooney »
George Clooney is one of the busiest men in Hollywood. He's currently promoting his excellent new legal drama Michael Clayton. He's wrapping up acting and directing duties on Leatherheads, a 1920's football romantic comedy with John Krasinski and Renee Zelwegger. He's shooting the Coen Brothers' Burn After Reading, a CIA comedy co-starring Brad Pitt, Tilda Swinton (so great in Clayton), John Malkovich, and Frances McDormand. In addition to all that, he's got to fly around the world in a jet made of gold and make the women of the world swoon 24/7. So yeah, the guy's got a lot going on. In fact, he's just decided that he has too much going on.Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Clooney has just dropped out of Joe Carnahan's White Jazz, a gritty tale of police corruption set in 1950s Los Angeles. Clooney was set to star in the independent film, which is based on the James Ellroy (L.A. Confidential) novel. White Jazz was expected to begin filming early next year, and was scheduled for a 2009 release date. Grant Heslov, Clooney's producing partner, says "It just simply came down to scheduling. George continues to believe in the project and in Joe." Clooney was set to be a producer on the film, and whether he'll remain involved in that capacity has not been announced. And those of you excited about the film, myself included, might not be too happy with this last sentence. According to a spokesperson at Warner Independent, where the film was set up -- White Jazz has dropped off its slate. Currently, there's no word from Carnahan, who, as of a couple days ago, was pretty pumped about starting production in January.
Golden Globes: Naomi Watts and Renee Zellweger Look Exactly the Same
Filed under: Awards »
Only one is just a tiny bit cuter, right? You decide which one. Watts came out to present the first of those mini-clips things that properly introduce the nominees for Best Motion Picture. After stumbling over her words quite a bit (who doesn't know how to pronouce Alejandro González Iñárritu's name?), clips from Babel swept across the screen. Watts looks good in a little sky blue number ... but then we lose her, only to watch Watts #2, er, Renee Zellweger, take the stage.
It's at this point that technical difficulties began pissing Erik off (mainly, his computer sucks), and so he gets his sh*t together in time to spot Zellweger introducing the Hollywood Foreign Press -- golf clap Brad, golf clap. Zellweger looks kind of like Watts, only with a little hair thing going on, and that classic look of constipation ... Renee, go to the bathroom honey. Please. You're killing us here.
Oh, and Happy Feet wins for Best Song for "The Song of the Heart," by Prince Rogers Nelson, aka Prince, aka He Who Was Formerly the Artist Formerly Known as Prince . No penguins showed up. Did we not tell you that. Mic check. Hello. Why does my computer hate me?
(Side note: Poor Justin Timberlake looked like a kid who just had his lunch money stolen right before he told us that Prince wasn't here to accept his award. )
First Pics of Seinfeld's Bee Movie

It's hard for me to visit my parents' house without the topic of Seinfeld popping up at least seven times. My folks live and breathe the show; they watch it a few times a day. Oh, but it's not just them -- my cousin (who lives in Australia) watches it religiously and says the show is huge over there. My best friend is obsessed with Seinfeld, and if it happens to come on while he's visiting my apartment, the dude suddenly becomes hypnotized -- his eyes transfixed on Jerry, George and Elaine as if they've somehow grabbed control of his mind. Myself? I watch it. The wife watches it. And the dog loves it. Yeah, it's pretty safe to say Seinfeld (the show and the man) has completely taken control of my entire universe. But it's cool ... I never had much of a life to begin with.
Suffice it to say that I am pretty excited about Jerry Seinfeld's upcoming animated Bee Movie (yes, that's what it's called), in which the comedian co-wrote, produced and starred in. A preview of the flick shows up on the new Over the Hedge DVD and, lucky for us, a few screenshots were posted over at Animated News. In the pic, Seinfeld voices Barry B. Benson, a bee who, after graduating college upset with the fact that he's forced into the boring career of making honey, decides to sue all humans after he realizes that they actually eat (and subsequently steal) all the honey. Also starring in Bee Movie are Renée Zellweger, Matthew Broderick, Larry King, John Goodman and Kathy Bates, among others. Bee Movie is currently scheduled to buzz into theaters on November 2, 2007. Heck, I'm pretty stoked about this one. You?
