Sienna Miller's New Cleavage: G.I. Whoa!

Filed under: Action », Paramount », Celebrities and Controversy », Comic/Superhero/Geek », War »

Fair warning: This is a slight, trivial, and practically meaningless piece of upcoming movie news -- but it touches on three things we love here at Cinematical: Action movies based on cartoons based on ancient marketing campaigns, horny directors, and fake breasts. Here we go:

According to SFGate's Hot Dish blog, sexy actress Sienna Miller was forced to wear fake hooters so as to accentuate her cleavage in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie. Ms. Miller will be playing The Baroness, and apparently her god-given boobies were not adequate in the eyes of director Stephen Sommers. ("'I'm gonna be honest, I like girls with big boobs," is what the director told her. Strange comment from a guy whose leading ladies have been Famke Janssen, Rachel Weisz, and Kate Beckinsale, three gorgeous women who aren't exactly D-cups.)

Ms. Miller notes that she was "mildly offended" by the breast issue, and I'm kind of surprised that the topic didn't come up before her first costume fitting, but hey ... The Baroness is pretty stacked. Perhaps Mr. Sommers is just trying to remain faithful to the source material -- or yeah, maybe he just likes big boobs. Lord knows the target demographic for G.I. Joe loves boobs. Check out images of Sienna as The Baroness in the gallery below.

Christian Bale Out, Sam Riley to Play Robin Hood?

The Nottingham rumors are flying as thick as, well, the trees of Sherwood Forest. Both CHUD and Ain't It Cool News, who apparently share the same source, are adamant that Christian Bale will not be playing Robin Hood in Ridley Scott's reinterpretation of the classic tale. So, as exciting as the idea of seeing Bale and Russell Crowe square off again is, it will have to wait for another film. Oddly, I find the news a relief. I like Bale immensely, but there are only so many icons a man should play in his career!

But, there's a new name being tossed about. Latino Review reports that Sam Riley, who played the troubled Ian Curtis in Control, is rumored to be in the running. Not only that, but Russell Crowe is said to be championing his casting. Whatever, and whoever, Crowe wants, he usually gets. So, if you look to your right, you may be looking at the latest incarnation of Robin Hood.

Riley is certainly closer to Sienna Miller's age, thus making the love triangle between Maid Marian, Robin and Nottingham a bit more complex. (And palatable to all of us leery of the age gap between Miller and Crowe.) He is certainly a fresh choice, and the role would lend itself to a talented newcomer. We shall soon see! Meanwhile, sound off below -- is Riley a good fit for the man in green? Or are you off the project for good now that Bale is out of the running?

Sienna Miller is Maid Marian of 'Nottingham'

Am I the only one who hears Bryan Adams singing that cheesy love song each and every time Ridley Scott's new Robin Hood flick gets a mention? I can't help it, the damn song is just there. It's burned into my big-screen Robin Hood memories and it won't go away. Help! But enough about me -- the BBC tells us Sienna Miller has officially confirmed that she will be playing the lovely Maid Marian in Nottingham, opposite Russell Crowe's Sheriff of Nottingham. Says Maid Miller: "It's happening. I just found out. It's the most exciting news in the world. It's ridiculous. But there's this looming actor's strike, so it's not 100% sure that it's going to be made, but it's looking pretty certain."

Hopefully we'll avoid this whole actor's strike thingy, because I'm honestly very interested in seeing what Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe and Sienna Miller do with the Robin Hood story -- especially since they're sort of flipping it so that the Sheriff is a bit more sympathetic and Robin is, well, nothing but a street hood ... or something like that. Oh, and there's a love triangle. No word yet on who they'll get to play the legendary Robin Hood, though I wouldn't mind seeing Orlando Bloom in the role. Thoughts?

Nottingham is currently scheduled to hit theaters on November 6, 2009.

Sienna Miller's Baroness Gets Bloody

While you may or may not agree with some of the costumes whipped up for the actors in the new G.I. Joe movie, which you can see in saucy hi-res here, you've got to admit that Sienna Miller's Baroness is pretty darned close. She's just slightly updated and really rocking the leather. (Although they really should have given her the classic black-rimmed glasses, rather than those less-cool, barely there frames.)

Now IESB has a few images of Sienna Miller on set, sporting a few distinct trails of blood on her face. There's something quite creepy, yet cool, about a raven-haired woman in black leather/pleather, carrying a gun, and smiling while blood trickles down her cheek and neck. But now I can't decide what I want more -- to see The Baroness fight in those wobbly shoes, or see a showdown between The Baroness and Selene, because they're definitely sporting a similar, gun-wielding look.

The film is currently in production, and we get to see what Stephen Sommers makes of the Hasbro line on August 7, 2009.

Trailer for Keira Knightley's 'The Edge of Love'

Filed under: Drama », Movie Marketing », Trailers and Clips »

Let it be known that little live but lies,
Love-lies, and god-lies, and lies-to-please.
Dylan Thomas

Back in 2006, I couldn't say that I was itching to see The Edge of Love, which was then titled The Best Time of Our Lives. Keira Knightley was attached to star, which wasn't surprising since her mom wrote the script, but Lindsay Lohan was attached to co-star. LiLo was already getting into tabloid trouble and it seemed like a slap in the face to Dylan Thomas fans, and a moment of insanity within the casting powers that be. Luckily, she dropped out, and Sienna Miller stepped in.

Now, finally, we've got a trailer. I could do without the first pointless closeup of Keira's face, but the trailer soon goes through the basics of the story, and it's looking like a sweet literary drama. Edge focuses on the love triangle between Caitlin (Miller) and Dylan Thomas (Matthew Rhys) and friend Vera Phillips (Knightley), and how this led Vera's husband, William Killick (Cillian Murphy), to open fire on the Thomas home with a machine gun and hand grenade in retaliation. Normally, I get a bit perturbed about literary dramas that focus on the romance rather than the writer, but this is a strange story, and it looks like it was captured well for the big screen.

I'd be remiss to not mention that this certainly has Atonement similarities (although one quote in the movie says that this flick is better!), but as a Thomas fan, I'm hoping it can shine in its own light.

The Edge of Love currently has no US release date, but is scheduled to arrive in the UK at the end of June.

UPDATE: Check out all G.I. Joe images in our brand spanking new gallery!

Above: Lost star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty, who serves as the G.I. Joe Team's heavy ordnance specialist with a passion for classical guitars and Bach. He is described as being unafraid of any situation despite heavy enemy fire. (for a larger look, head over to Coming Soon).

Paramount has released a crop of new photos from the upcoming live-action G.I. Joe flick; most of which appear to be different from those that leaked online not long ago. This seems to be a pretty easy film to market -- there's, like, 250 characters to eventually show us, and so they may as well unveil them a little at a time. Still not crazy about this whole special-ops look, but what can you do. Who's not in this film? I'd love to list the entire cast (which also includes folks like Channing Tatum, Sienna Miller and Dennis Quaid), but I think my fingers will go numb. There's a lot of folks in this thing; trust me. After the jump, check out the three other photos, as well as a little bit of info via our good friend Mr. Wiki.

G.I. Joe is due out in theaters on August 7, 2009.

[Note: Other images removed at the request of the studio ... but picture a bunch of actors wearing black and looking tough.]

We're not sure if they were hoping to release these one at a time, but the website [Bad People Who Leak Photos Online] has gotten their hands on the entire batch of character photos from the upcoming live-action G.I. Joe flick. Included in the images are Channing Tatum (as Duke), Karolina Kurkova (as Cover Girl), Marlon Wayans (as Ripcord), Sienna Miller (as Baroness), Ray Park (as Snake Eyes), Rachel Nichols (as Scarlett) and Dennis Quaid (as Hawk). Almost all of them are wearing this same black, special-ops outfit, which leads us to believe they won't be showin' off the color when it's time to do battle.

G.I. Joe arrives in theaters on August 7, 2009.

New G.I. Joe Details and the Toys!

Filed under: Action », Paramount », Fandom », Scripts », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », War »

If you were hankering for more details about the big-screen G.I. Joe, then today is your lucky day, because Hasbro's Brian Goldner is feeling chatty. MTV news spoke with G.I. Joe's executive producer and managed to score some important details about the feature film. Goldner is chief operating officer at Hasbro, and was responsible for releasing Joe back in the 80's to millions of military-minded children everywhere.

First up -- what the filmmakers have in store for main bad guy, Cobra Commander. According to Goldner: "In effect, this is all about the rise of Cobra Commander. ... For fans, they're really going to love this, because we take them on a journey. ... We have to go through the first chapter and then build from there." Rumors currently have Joseph Gordon-Levitt taking over the role of Cobra, but that has yet to be confirmed.

But it's not just about the bad-guys. Goldner also hinted about some new back-story on some of the more familiar characters, including Baroness (played by Sienna Miller) and Destro (Christopher Eccleston). As for the 'rah-rah military' tone of earlier incarnations of Joe, Goldner says that while the original feel, will still be there, we shouldn't start looking for any metaphors about global politics or foreign policy. According to Goldner: "Clearly, the American military is involved, as are other forces. But at the end of the day, the force that matters is the G.I. Joe force, and the Pit, and all the things that relate to that."

Now, what would a G.I. Joe movie be without the toy tie in? Goldner confirmed that Hasbro will revive the 3 and 3/4 inch figures from the 80's. "[That size] gives people a chance to get all the figures but get all of the vehicles. So it's going to be in that scale. ... Very true to where we were in the 1980s, and then we'll take it forward" -- gee I can't wait for my Marlon Wayans figure with kung-fu grip. G.I. Joe is set for release on August 7th, 2009.

Sienna Miller Gets Sexy and Sinister for 'G.I. Joe'

Like most people, when news broke that English party girl Sienna Miller had signed to star in Stephen Sommers' big-screen G.I. Joe flick, I was a little surprised at the choice. Usually, when you think female action stars, Miller probably would not be at the top of the list. Luckily, she seems to be taking the part seriously, and in between champagne cocktails at a pre-BAFTA bash, gave the gossip wags at The Sun a little sneak peak into her preparations to play the infamous Baroness. Miller told the press that, "I've started taking boxing lessons, and I've also had to learn how to fire guns with live ammunition. I'm a baddie, running around kicking everyone while wearing tight, thigh-high boots...I'm getting muscles everywhere."

The official synopsis for the film reads: "From the Egyptian desert to deep below the polar ice caps, the elite co-ed GI JOE team, based from its headquarters The Pit, deploys the latest in next-gen spy and military equipment to fight crooked arms dealer Destro and the growing threat of the mysterious COBRA organization from plunging the world into chaos." In the original Joe stories, Baroness was COBRA Organization's intelligence officer. Serving as a lieutenant to Cobra Commander, Baroness was a dark femme fatale type. In both the comics and the cartoons, she had a romantic relationship with Destro. I guess now that a fellow countryman has been cast as Destro, Sommers might be looking to include the romantic sub-plot.
