How 'Watchmen' Should Have Been Cast

That Watchmen casting is all wrong. Really ... Can Jeffrey Dean Morgan compare to Linus? Malin Akerman to Lucy*? Jackie Earle Haley to Snoopy? Patrick Wilson to Pigpen? Schroeder to Matthew Goode? And finally -- Billy Crudup to Charlie Brown!?
This has been making the rounds for a few weeks now, but has just hit BoingBoing and my eyes. This excellent re-creation comes from Evan Shaner (check out his blog here), and really, I can't think of a better, and more fitting, spoof. It's so good, in fact, that I think Zack Snyder should add more than just the Black Freighter to the DVD. Can you imagine these guys fighting crime? Snoopy would finally get some of the toughness of his Red Baron dreams. Charlie could hang out on other planets. Linus could get randy with the sexy ladies.
It won't happen, but I can dream. We're finally less than a year away from the film's release, and anticipation is mounting. The first character stills, which were appropriately released on March 6 -- the one-year countdown -- are great, but trust me -- you ain't seen nothin' yet!
*Thanks to Gregory for pointing out my ridiculous error!
Scary Movie is Turning Into the Land Before Time

I was in a Suncoast Video store not very long ago, and I saw a collector's edition of the Land Before Time movies. The box, which contained every
LBT film made thus far, was roughly the size of a Hummer. The big one, not the new H2. I believe David Zucker and company (who have taken over the franchise from the
Wayans) are trying to match that feat with the Scary Movie
line. Part 4 has yet to hit the theaters (it'll be there on the 14th of this month) and Zucker has already announced
his intentions to create a 5th.
Zucker told Sci Fi Wire that it will
be a while before script writing will officially start, however, because ... well ... they need to wait for more films
to parody. Zucker said he and his team wait to see the audience reaction to any given horror film, and only include
those that do well. The Ring 2, for instance, will not be
lampooned by the Scary Movie franchise. And of course, Zucker is also hard at work on a Superhero!
spoof film, which will take any possibly scary superhero film moments out of contention for inclusion in the Scary
Movie line.
Honestly, I have yet to see any of the Scary Movie films, and I think I'll be
rather content to keep it that way. Not that I dislike Zucker (I rather enjoy his work, in fact), I just don't watch
hardly any horror flicks, so most of the spoof hilarity would be lost on me. Now the Superhero film will
likely be a different story...
Brokeback Mountain, meet Equus

If there was any doubting that Brokeback Mountain has become a full-fledged cultural phenomenon, the rising wave of gay cowboy spoofs and mash-ups should put your nervous mind at ease. Last week, my Nathan Lane allergy prevented me from telling you about this, the musical medley he performed in "tribute" to Ang Lee's film on the David Letterman show; it's my sympathy for the surely-livid porn producers of the world that compels be to bring you this. Bareback Mountain is not the funniest fake trailer I've ever seen, but it does star a guy who looks sort of like a cross between Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal, and as far as a one-line cowboy-loves-his-horse joke goes, it certainly could be worse. Plus, that joke about the saddle was totally LOL. Bareback - ha!
