Porn Mockumentary 'The Auteur' Now Available Online
Filed under: Comedy », Tribeca », Distribution », NSFW »
Last April I saw a film at the Tribeca Film Festival, enjoyed it, reviewed it, and then promptly forgot all about it. (Hey, I see lots of movies. Sorry!) So imagine my pleasant surprise when a friend pinged me and said "Hey, that porn mockumentary you liked is now up on Amazon's VOD site." The flick at hand is The Auteur, and it comes from the guys who brought you Film Geek a few years back. I was lukewarm on that film, but this one I like a lot more.I'll include a trailer after the jump, but I should say it right now: Aside from the title, pretty much all of The Auteur is what the kids call "NSFW." It's an enthusiastically R-rated sex comedy, basically, that feels like the amusing spawn of Christopher Guest and Howard Stern. And if that sounds fun to you, then hooray for you: The flick is available for your viewing pleasure at this very minute. (At Amazon and / or iTunes.) And if the premise / trailer have piqued your interest, then here's the official site.
And for those who drop the duckets to see the flick online, definitely stop back and share your opinions on The Auteur.
Tribeca Review: The Auteur

(Note: This review contains slightly salty language. I tried to avoid it, but the movie at hand made it pretty much impossible. Comedies about pornography are funny that way.)
I know tons of film geeks who were big fans of James Westby's Film Geek -- but unfortunately I wasn't really one of them. That's not to say it's a rotten little indie, but I felt the flick had some real tonal inconsistencies, plus the lead character was an insufferable, unrealistic idiot. But I thought there was certainly enough there to remember Westby's name for when his next movie rolled around, and I'm glad I did. Westby's latest, a mockumentary farce about a legenday porno director, is called The Auteur. It's based on a short film the director shot a few years back, it features the same leading man (Melik Malkasian) found in Film Geek, and (while it definitely sags just a bit in the middle section), it's really, really funny.
Arturo Domingo considers himself the Stanley Kubrick of pornography (or as he pronounces it with a cartoonishly Italian accent: porno-graff-ee) and he's got the filmography to prove it: After hitting the big-time (and getting tossed out of USC) with a film called Five Easy Nieces, Domingo's career is rocking. Along with his regular leading man Frank E. Normo, Arturo bangs out money-makers like My Left Nut and Requiem for a Wet Dream -- but things start to fall apart on the set of the epic war porno Full Metal Jackoff. Turns out that in addition to being a visionary artist, a sex genius, and an on-set tyrant, Arturo is also an insanely jealous man: His career crumbles when he alienates his lovely wife one time too many.

If the following trailer-ish preview wasn't extremely NSFW, I'd throw it right up at the top. But then I know some of you would complain, tell me your boss canned you because of it, and I'd feel horrible. Weekend would be ruined. So, instead, you can check out a preview of the hilarious new film The Auteur (which will premiere at this year's Tribeca Film Festival) after the jump.
We're getting started a little early this year on the 2008 Tribeca Film Festival, since it's my hometown fest (like to give a little extra love) and because there's so many good films playing. We'll begin by previewing as many as we can -- what looks the best, sounds the best, etc ... First up is The Auteur, directed by James Westby (Film Geek), and it stars Melik Malkasian as Arturo Domingo, also known as the Martin Scorsese of porn. Do I even need to tell you where it goes from there? Check out the preview they made for the From Here to Awesome festival after the jump, and we'll bring you more of The Auteur during this year's Tribeca Film Festival.
