Tom Cruise's 'Wichita' Turns to 'Knight & Day'

Tom Cruise has been in Boston (what, haven't you read the reports of Suri sightings in Beantown?) filming what was previously known as Witchita, a new film from Fox co-starring Cameron Diaz that is billed as a spy comedy romance thriller. Well, the film that has been blowing sh*t up in Massachusetts has the new title Knight & Day, as well as an impressive roster of new cast members.
In addition to Cruise, Diaz, Paul Dano, Maggie Grace, and Marc Blucas, Knight & Day has added Oscar nom Viola Davis, thespian Peter Sarsgaard, and sexpot Olivier Martinez to the cast.
As Jen Yamato pointed out, this sounds like it could be successfully aimed at the female audience, but can audiences accept the idea of Tom Cruise as a Clooney-type dreamboat? Can he still be funny? (Funny on purpose -- not funny like in Valkyrie.) Will female audiences be turned off by Diaz? James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, Walk the Line) is directing, but the five (!) screenwriters include Dana Fox, who wrote Couples Retreat and What Stays in Vegas, and partner Scott Frank wrote Marley & Me and The Interpreter.
Color me skeptical. Cutesy title and a mixed bag of actors and writers? What do you think?
Casting Bites: Jason Segel Gets Wee in 'Gulliver's Travels' and More!

We've all seen the many ways that Jason Segel is a big dude, but now he's gearing up to see what life is like on the other side. The Hollywood Reporter posts that he's in talks to sign onto Jack Black's Gulliver's Travels along with Emily Blunt. Black's Gulliver washes up on the island of Lilliput, where people are only 6 inches tall, and befriends a wee one named Horatio (Segel). Horatio not only has the honor of having a friend who can squash him -- he's also the love interest of the island's princess (Blunt). Lucky girl.In less lucky circles, Hilary Swank is no longer getting debonair love from Jeffrey Dean Morgan. After romancing it up in P.S. I Love You, THR posts that he's going to stalk her in The Resident. She'll play a young doc who nabs a loft in Brooklyn, only to find that her charming landlord (Morgan) is actually a psycho who pulls her into "a terrifying game of cat and mouse." They really lack the chemistry, so this should be an improvement.

Cinematical has received this exclusive final poster for Doubt, which proudly displays its many much-deserved award nominations. Based on the play by John Patrick Shanley (who also adapted and directed this big-screen version -- listen to our audio interview with him here), Doubt is exceptional because of its cast -- with all four players (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Meryl Streep, Amy Adams and Viola Davis) turning in sharp, powerful performances. Set in the Bronx, New York in 1964, Doubt plunges right into the heart of a Catholic School and follows the two nuns who suspect a priest of making unwanted advances toward the school's first black student. Easily one of my favorite films of the year, this is definitely one you don't want to miss -- especially on a cold dark weekend in the middle of winter.
