Final 'X-Men: Origins Wolverine' Trailer Online!

Filed under: Action », 20th Century Fox », Newsstand », Movie Marketing », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Images », Trailers and Clips »

Here it is, the final X-Men Origins: Wolverine trailer you will ever see, courtesy of USA Today. There's some new character shots too, and all is collected here for your viewing pleasure. Unfortunately, the trailer embed ridiculously tiny, so you'll want to play it full screen for all the explosive, SNIKT-y goodness.

The final trailer isn't radically different than the first one, except that it's bigger, louder, gives a lot a way and yet manages to be more confusing. There's more Deadpool (who goes from Ryan Reynolds to the freaky man glimpsed in the action figure) and more Cyclops. I am completely thrown as to how young Scott Summers fits in, and this trailer really makes it seem as though the entire plot revolves around him. I'm at a loss. But I am happy to see there's hints that Logan's choices may not have been so very free. Still ... Cyclops?!

If you don't like it, blame Hugh Jackman, who's taking full responsibility for this film as its producer: "[I wanted] to own up to the responsibility of this character. I wanted to put myself into this movie in every way possible. This is the movie that I've seen in my head for a long time." He's also determined to make the character badass again, because he just doesn't care for the way he's been portrayed so far. "I'm not mad about it, but I thought he had gotten a bit soft. I thought we had gotten away from the essence of who Wolverine really is: a bad (dude) who wants to live his own life." Who knew it was so chock full of mutant friends ... ?

Will.i.am Discusses John Wraith and 'Wolverine'

Filed under: Action », Fandom », 20th Century Fox », Newsstand », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels »

Will.i.am, one of the biggest casting surprises in X-Men Origins: Wolverine has come forward to MTV to talk about his role in the film. It isn't much, but his enthusiasm is infectious, and the movie set sounds like a really happy one. Everyone, from the extras to the stars, has had nothing but good things to say.

If you remember from our announcement way back in February (incidentally, the second post I ever wrote here -- wow!), Will.i.am is playing John Wraith, aka Kestrel. Wraith is a teleporter, and one of those unlucky men chosen to be genetically tweaked by Weapon X. From the sound of it, his character has been left true to the comics. "I'm a teleporter ... I'm here, I'm there, I'm everywhere. Boom, boom, boom!" Will revealed. "My character's name is John Wraith. He's a black Texan. He's not a cowboy, but his gear suggests that he is. He's just a badass who'll whoop your ass."

I wish I could have spent a day on this set, because the machismo and testosterone was obviously running high. Will revealed that one fight scene left a permanent impression. "You see that little scar I've got on my knuckles? I'm a newbie when it comes to big action films and stuff ... It was my fight scene. I was real into it, and then I missed my mark, and I punched the camera and broke the lens! But that goes to show you, I ain't to be messed with, because I break lenses!"

To read (or watch) the rest of the interview, head on over to MTV. X-Men Origins: Wolverine opens May 1st, 2009.

'X-Men Origins: Wolverine' Adds Some Hip Hop Flava

It has been a big news day for the old Canucklehead. It was announced earlier that Ryan Reynolds was joining the cast as Deadpool, and that Taylor Kitsch had signed on to play Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Before fans could wrap their mind around the fact that Wolverine wasn't running solo in this film, Variety just announced a third addition. Hip hop star will.i.am has signed on, and IESB has the scoop that he will be playing John Wraith.

John Wraith, also known as Kestrel, was one of the members of Team X. He was a skilled teleporter and always knew when to use massive explosives. He wasn't particularly memorable, nor was his storyline where he and Team X tried to prevent themselves from rapidly aging into goo. I vaguely remember this from the Wolverine's solo comic series, and am very sorry it has been dredged up. Team X was one of the most convoluted and bizarre story arcs ever written, where Wolverine ran around in third world countries as a sort of CIA Agent with a team of mutants. He was usually accompanied by his arch-nemesis Sabretooth, who was no longer a savage psycho, but all sophisticated and smart.
They wore suits and carried guns with the handles wrapped in tape. They were like hairier versions of James Bond. To make things weirder, Silver Fox, Logan's once-murdered lover, often showed up as a drug runner or revolutionary. Charmingly, she was always sporting her Indian maiden headdress so that readers could recognize her. It was, needless to say, extremely lame, particularly when it concluded with Silver Fox being eaten by a tree. Only recently, the arc was dismissed as implanted memories, as nearly all bad Wolverine stories are. It's good to have a brainwashed character sometimes.
