Fan Rant: Simmer Down, X-Philes

Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Mystery & Suspense », Fandom », 20th Century Fox », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Fan Rant »

This summer has been a big one for the fanboy (and girl) nation. Geeks have rejoiced as their favorite icons have come to grace the silver screen either once again or for the first time -- Tony Stark, Indiana Jones, Bruce Wayne, Bruce Banner, Kit Kittredge -- with each film accompanied by its own modest fan frenzy (yes, a $155 million opening weekend equals modest 'round these parts).

But naturally, as if so often the case with the potent combo of radical fanaticism and internet anonymity, the nastier trolls have not seen fit to shirk their responsibility of maintaining the sacred Tomatometer with a crudely constructed death threat or two (or two hundred). For them, this is personal. They can't possibly enjoy their long-awaited flick should some goateed snob decide to feel any degree of lukewarm or otherwise before the public gets their peek.

This is blood for blood, and by the comment. These are the new days, the bad days, the all-or-nothing days. They're back.

Trailer Park: Rube Goldberg Edition

Filed under: Comedy », Independent », Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Trailer Trash », Trailers and Clips »

For this week's Trailer Park we're taking a Rube Goldberg approach, with an intricate series of mechanisms (metaphorically speaking) allowing us to careen from one trailer to the next by one connection or other. Ready? Let's start with:

X-Files: I Want to Believe
Yes, I want to believe too. X-Files became unwatchable for me in its last few years on the air, but prior to that it was one of the best hours of dramatic television ever. I'd love to see the series revived as a successful film franchise, but this trailer isn't doing much for me. We have the reappearance of Fox Muldar (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), as well as the theme from the TV show, but the rest is a muddle of chaotic imagery. This being X-Files, details are being kept to a minimum, but I'm not seeing enough here to get me revved up, which is how I was hoping to feel. Here's Elisabeth's take on it.
And speaking of Gillian Anderson...

New 'X-Files' Photos, Movie Plot Finally Revealed?

Filed under: Sci-Fi & Fantasy », Fandom », 20th Century Fox », Comic/Superhero/Geek », Remakes and Sequels », Images »

After so many headlines across the Internet screaming "New X-Files Photo!" and finding it to be the same broody shot of Mulder and Scully at a desk, it came as a real surprise to find an actual new photo. This comes by way of DVD Forum, who always seem to get their hands on tasty new images (check out a second image after the jump).

This photo is quite intriguing -- ShockTillYouDrop did a set visit where a religious element was mentioned, but with so much smoke and mirrors, it was difficult for them to take anything at face value. Unless Scully is working at a Catholic hospital (and that is a real possibility with her background), then the stained glass back there would back up such a storyline. And it fits with that new I Want to Believe title, doesn't it?

Additionally, our friends at XFilesNews share with us a brand new plot summary coming via the back cover blurb of the novel for the film. To avoid spoilers, we've posted it after the jump. Let us know what you think. Sounds creeeepy ...

The X-Files: I Want to Believe opens July 25th, 2008.
